A 250 2 stroke will make a good woods bike.

250's make good woods bikes. Some of them in stock form can be a handful, but there is many ways to tame them down. They can have a decent amount of low end unlike a 125.

Flywheel weight
Change ignition timing
Gearing
Throttle cams
Pipes/Silencers
Rekluse clutch

An rm would make a good bike and some of my friends ride them. If you would get a KTM or another enduro bike some things that can be handy in the woods are electric start, off road suspension, larger gas tank, 18" rear tire, and a kick stand.

Great bikes for the woods!!

The gearing will be a bit quick for the woods so go up one on the countershaft or down at least two on the rear. 8oz flywheel weight helps make the power more manageable, finally a larger tank and that's what I'd change for starters.
