I'm finally looking at getting back into the mix after 3 years away from riding. Found a pretty good deal on a '01 RM 250 two stroke. Pretty excited about it, but wanted to know what opinions on that model and year you have. Thanks.

Good timing. I just came across a nicely built '01 for sale as well and am curious how they stack up to the later years. I used to own an '03 which I really liked and was supposed to be the first year they essentially copied the YZ cylinder/piston. Just don't want to jump on something if it's too far removed from the those good final years.

A good riding buddy of mine had the same bike growing up. Soild motorcycle, have extra fiber clutch plates in your tool box m though. Invest in stiffer clutch springs.

You don't really say if your talking racing mx 15 times or so this season or riding off road with friends.
Either way, one thing I think that is many times over looked with a used bike is at least getting the suspension serviced.
Which is an oil change and any worn parts replaced.

loved mine. I agree though about the clutch.
suspension is what's to be expected of a 14 yr old bike.
motor tame and very rideable (compared to my 14 husky 250)
