good grief. looks like a full gate of yz's - 1 or 2 ktms?

i dont know anyone of that age bracket, but at our local races its tons of ktms, few yz, and a handfull of rm's.

i figured ktm would be sweeping this class almost like the enduro classes and gncc's?

is the yz platform just that tried and true that they dont care about riding a 6+yr old bike? has to be loosing a few HP to the ktms right?

Less than 1 hp difference, broader powerband, lighter, better suspension. Doesn't come with a chrome pipe though.

Way way way better suspension on the YZ.
Lord I wish I had all the money back I have spent trying to make my KTM's feel like my stock YZ's suspension. I could buy a new bike.

interesting. had no idea yz's still had that much of a leg up on the ktm in that cc.

does the schoolboy class allow 125cc only or can you run a 144/150?

Where I'm from the schoolboy 1 class is capped at 125cc I believe but the schoolboy 2 you can run 250F's in it.
That's district 20 Houston area.
Maybe Mr. Hughes can correct me since he is the MX King IMO.

Look at Lorettas championships this year. Yamaha killed it. 16 titles i believe. Almost every 2t class was won by a yz.

Still plenty of good two stroke tuners out there, and with the necessary port work, you can make a YZ fast. Definitely helps that they are a tried and tested model. Add to that Yamaha's awesome suspension, and it makes it a tough choice. I know a lot of guys who tried KTM's two strokes for a year or two then went back to Yamaha.

The 2006 YZ 125 is the best all around package ever produced.

Schoolboy 1 12 - 16 yrs. 86cc - 125cc 2-stroke 75cc - 150cc 4-stroke. Minimum front wheel size 19 inches. Minimum rear wheel size
16 inches.

Schoolboy 2 14 - 16 yrs. 122cc - 250cc any
Minimum wheelbase 53 inches. No minicycle or Supermini.

Kyb SSS
And easy accessibility to an abundance of cheap parts. slap a vforce on a stock yz125 and you're solid.

I prefer the stock reed cage with carbon reeds over the Vforce.

hahaha. i didnt realize that the 150 4T could race in that class. i didnt see/hear ONE of those POS's.
how does the 150 4T stack up in the supermini classes? i guess thats where they have more luck against the 2T?

Well if the rumours are true and its getting a lot of talk in Oz that here's a new YZ65 and also serious talk on new 125 and 250. In Oz you go to the amateur national titles and 75% of the bikes are KTM. Yamaha have noted this as a good relationship builds with a brand early and they are aware it's hard to win people back. Yamaha are trying to win people back at the moment with an old outdated 85 it's not working. I trust my source on this one

Hmmmm....When you check the two stroke threads here, you would have thought KTM would have had everyone covered.

I don't think they do, but that's up for debate of course. Both awesome bikes.

A video showed that never happened.

Yamaha has some great support teams this year. Glad to see Yamaha making such a effort.

7th place in Schoolboy went to a GNCC rider Chris Vendetti making the Mini O's his 2nd MX of the year.

And isn't the YZ around $1300 cheaper? As much as I've seen people jump on the KTM bandwagon where I'm from over the last few years, I'm starting to see a lot of them move away from the brand. $$ not worth the hype. Yamaha is gaining huge momentum in my area (both two stroke and four stroke)

Locally id say there are more yz 85 being raced than KTMS. National events; however, usually have riders with ability to spend more coin.

Always makes me chuckle when others post the picture "Meanwhile in Japan" with all the Japanese asleep while KTM is advancing 2 stroke technology. I guess the top amateurs in the country missed the memo!!

And btw I own both KTM and Yamaha.....I just believe that the YZ125 is likely the one of the best mx motorcycles ever made (if not the best). Its ability to win races with no real changes since 2007 is a testament on how good the overall package is.

The engine in the 2005+ YZ125 was a quantum leap. I've ridden plenty of 125's with as much top-end but they are usually gutless on the bottom and mid. The stock YZ screams as well as many modded motors but has impressive bottom and mid (for a 125) that makes it easy to stay on the pipe. I wish I could have had that 125 engine back in the 80's when I was a kid racing 125's.

The Yamaha SSS suspension is just awesome and it shines the best on the YZ125 due to the very light weight of the bike. Both my 125 and 250 are dialed but the 125 feels like riding a mountain bike floating on pillows.

I watched some mxp tv videos and there were two divisions. And it literally looked like they stuck all the KTM's in one heat and all the Yamaha's in another..
