My guess is JGR gave them more incentives. Same thing that happens in Nascar. Think how much R&D technology JGR has at their disposal vs RCH. So, I would guess, JGR laid out how much they could help the factory with designing and building parts and all the engineering help they could want.

So JGR's going to run Yoshimura exhaust and other goodies and RCH already is. I think Yoshimura Suzuki Factory Racing wanted out of the "lifetime" contract for Stew and are still a big part in the Suzuki factory effort. This opened up an opportunity for JGR.

RCH/Yoshimura teams essentially merged. Their teams from 2016 no longer exist (on paper) and formed a new team and new contracts. A corporate way of "cleaning" house if you will, but still heavily involved.

May be something to this. I heard Carry Hart and Pink were losing plenty money as Team Owners and wanted out. JGR may have looked a more stable and better prepared obtion to Suzuki.
