They make a great product and also support the sport more than any other brace company. Support the companies that support the sport is my recommendation.

they are great, but the eyelets for the laces rust right away and then cut the laces. Happened on two sets and got no help from calling them. Why not put in stainless eyelets at the cost they are charging? Seems the new braces have stainless parts on the new system ;-)

Asterisk there knees can move sideways so you still can damage your knees quickly , i would look for the alpinestars b2 carbon braces i'm very happy with that and is not waering down my knees of the pants

I like mine. Not as much as I like the custom CTi I have on my right knee (the asterisk is bulkier and doesn't fit quite as well) but I can't really fault it.

A friend has them, and tore his acl on both knees at different times, and they wear holes in his pants in 2 or 3 rides.

2 years of riding with one set of gear and not one hole in the knees. This is with tld gear. Have been wearing these braces for 6 years and never had a hole in pants.

i have been wearing a custom cti on my left and a donjoy on the right. the cti wears holes in the pants after about 20 hrs. recks seat and graffix. feel naked ithout them. gonna try pod mx next. my current braces are 8 years old. about 700 hrs of moto and single track. built to last. espeacially the don joy. have had all straps and brackets replaced on the cti with donjoy units. the basic structure of both braces are awsome

Custom CTis have always been too expensive for me. After my big off-road crash back in '97 I first got an EVS (they were pretty flimsy at that time but were some of the first ones), then I got a CTI Edge which did the job but was so bulky, I moved to the Asterisk when they came out and loved them. Been using them forever due to my very bad knee. MX, DH, snowboarding, etc. Been a fan of the Cell and now converted to the Ultra Cell (you can't beat the fitting of the BOA system).

I had a pair of them. They were good while they lasted. Only got a couple of seasons out of them and the almost literally exploded. They broke completely beyond without a crash induced demise. As far as "over the counter" braces g though, they do fit well and seem to do a good job. I was just not happy about the short lifespan.

On my second set and they gotta be at least 5 years old, they are the orig. design and still work great, (Did send them in for 1 tune up) I ride on Average 1-2 days a week, and would buy another pair in a second. The ultra's looks impressive.

I purchased astrix braces for me and my son 6-8 years ago. It took a short while to get used to them but after that you feel naked without them. I even used them snow skiing. Haven't ridden but once or twice in the last few years due to health issues but it's like a helmet, once you get used to them you won't want to ride without them. And the arguement of wearing out gear or graphics, that same abuse is going to your knees if you ride without them!!!

Also, we got excellent service from Coleen at Astrix when we had any issues. The original braces had clips that were horrible to open, they fixed them for us for only shipping cost.

Although I haven't tried the new Asterisk braces...I went with the Troy Lee Braces and couldn't be happier ..there so comfortable I really don't even realize I have them on ...at least try them on before you buy the Asterisk...you won't be sorry !! just my 2 cents

I used to wear a custom CTI on my left knee up until I snapped my femur right at the top edge of the brace. While neither is a good choice I'll take the trashed knee over the snapped femur any day, I've had both and the femur continues to haunt me more than the trashed knee, much more. Plus with the knee injury I was never in danger of dying, the femur on the other hand......

what do you consider a "trashed" knee? I'm looking at ACL and PCL replacement in roughly 1.5 months. I think a brace after surgery will be a must but I definitely here you about the femur issue.

what's your worst knee injury/surgery?

I wore the original cell and loved them.

Customer service was great as well. I was literally days short of the one-year guarantee date when a kid flipped his bike into me off a crowded start and I took a footpeg just below the knee. The brace took the impact, snapping in half. Asterisk replaced the lower brace and freshened the whole thing up no charge.

I wore TLD and had no real wear issues. Grip tape was a cheese grater but the braces were fine.

They are good. I wore them for 3 years or so. Each pair lasted about a year and a half.

Last year I switched to the POD braces. To me they feel more comfortable and so far they have been more durable than the Asterisks.

Had mine for about 4yrs now, they are getting sloppy in the links and pivots whatever you call them. The chick at the asterisk truck at the Atlanta sx said that they would replace everything on them except the red carbon fiber part for $200. Which I didn't think was too bad really.

I thought theyre supposed to be like that to prevent you from hyperextending the knee? If you put your foot down and hits a rock or something it will be less of a deal if your knee is slightly bent..

X2. Had a friend that tore his knees up multiple times with and without braces. The last pair of asterisk braces I had. I had a medium size get off at best wasn't that bad. It broke the upper red carbon fiber part in half. Well the jagged edges could have stabbed me in the leg right around my main artery. I ditched braces all together after that. Not worth a broken femur or getting cut open in my opinion. On the up side they were really comfortable. Yet tore up every pair of ridding pants i owned into shit after a few months. Guess to each his own but that’s just my experience.

I definitely recommend getting the proprietary guards to save graphics and pants. I think rider height and style are a factor but most of the guys I know that run them without the additional pads trash their stuff quick, myself included. I put the asterisk guards on-$20 well spent.

I have two sets, I had one and broke the frame just under normal riding conditions so i sent them to get repaired but needed another set because they were going to be gone for two weeks and I figured if I had two of the same it would be easier to maintain and switch parts around. Since I've had them, 2 seasons, Ive had them break so many times I've stocked parts so I can fix them at the track. I got the one set refurbished right before lorettas this year and after the third moto when i took it off the frame on the left side was snapped clean apart. I think the braces are very comfortable but i'm waiting to break this last set and I'm gettting the new PODs. I ride alot, especially this past season but I've never blown through pants so fast and graphics in one moto even with the pads installed. I think the design and function is great but it's not worth the trade off for durability and frustration.

Even though I won't wear them anymore I do think they have their place. That CTI helped me put off ACL surgery for several years. It, at minimum put confidence back into my riding and did keep the knee from popping out. Ultimately the best fix was to go under the knife. The mistake I made was continuing to wear it after healing from the knee surgery. I also used the padding to protect my pants/bike and it ripped right through everything including my seat and plastics.
