the way our sport is marketed

10/28/2012 7:14 PM

I just got done watching that video of Dungey at his house. I then think of all the crap (dirtshark, MM stuff, etc) that is floating around out there. The other day while watching the MEC, a comm ercial came on for the SX finals in Vegas. The guy doing the commercial said "watch the world best daredevils do insane jumps". Why does our sport get packaged as a back woods "daredevil" sport rather than actual racing where the athletes get some credit for how hard they train and work to become the best. I cant figure it out. It is embarrassing to think how the general public must view our sport just by the crap they are fed in ads and such. When will MX/SX get marketed as racing and not just some Mt. Dew, Monster energy "entertainment".

If Roczen cant do it, maybe the Moose CAN

in case you havent noticed...MX is marketed toward uneducated white males

KEEP WORKING, MILLIONS ON WELFARE DEPEND ON YOU!

I know its marketed to middle age men who have above average income.

If you take away a mans ability to fail, you take away his will to succeed.

You were not born a winner, and you were not born a loser. You are what you make yourself be.

Not many here would like the demographics that works for marketing our sport.

All I can say is, get over it. It's keeping our sport alive.

damn I love hot chicks, but the monster girls in sx are a frickin disgrace. The racers efforts should be showcased... kinda like football or basketball. There's cheerleaders, but they are definitely an afterthought to the real show. Instead of watching a skank wag her ass with a 30 second board, blowing kisses, ohhhh nevermind

10/28/2012 8:22 PM

Was it this video?
I love it how at the start the Dunge thinks the show is gonna be like cribs (flashing all his hardware/ bike in the house etc) but by the end he knows its more of a 60minutes type vibe (Talking about his journey to get where he is today)

Please appreciate that I call a spade a spade. I'm a straight talker with no connections and no agenda. I will happily apologize if I'm wrong and If I am right I will not gloat. I love the sport and that's all there is to it.

10/28/2012 8:38 PM

LOL because the sport has become a jumping contest and once in a while there is a race trying to happen.???

oooops out loud again. How many races last year was there a 15-20 second win and the field was spread out so far that the leader and the rest of the field were shown as if they were riding by themselves.??

If you are a racer, you know how tough it is, if you understand all that you can appreciate the riders talent.

joe blow couch potato has no clue, and well it's not very close racing much of the time which it is what it is. I know when MC was cleaning house every weekend I didn't watch it then, and today, well if it becomes a runaway it's not that interesting.

jmo.

Is that really what you took away from that piece?

So you train your ass off to participate in a sport and you get called a daredevil. Gotta be a nice compliment...

No not at all, just someone mentioned a Dunge video, and the start of this one is very dirt-shark-Esq..

Its a very very good video, love the lifestyle side and what a passionate hard working team RD has around him..

Did they really just call Grady County the Motocross capital of the world? And did they just say Dungey has won every title there is? Really good video though!

Dungey has won every top championship there is. AMA 250 SX, AMA 250 MX, AMA 450 SX, AMA 450 MX (2), MXDN (2)...not sure what else there is. Florida is becoming very popular for off season, and a home base for many racers.

Every title there is to win in the sport? Supercross wise, yes. Motocross wise, no...
He still has to win world champ titles to do that.
No disrespect to the Dunge, the text from the narrator is just not quite correct. But i guess that is debatable.
So is 'the motocross capital of the world'...

What they meant was he's won every title that actually matters.....

There has never been an AMA motocross or supercross championship that deserved an asterisk and there never will be. - RandyS

When was this show broadcast? I used to watch Transworld Sport every saturday morning about 20 years ago when I was a kid. Didn't realise it was still going.

Its a joke
think about all the riders who don't get anything for risking their lives
unless they are beating the likes of Procircuit Dungey etc they are wasting their time sure its cool to be a the track walk around like a rock start but at the end of the day how much money to you make?
These riders need to learn how to market themselves they keep doing the same thing over and over again expecting a different result not going to happen. They want to look cool like the factory boys
I have had Advertisers wanting to pay money (1000 dollars a race) to get their name out and riders would not use my Slater Shield say it doesn't look cool cant ride with hand guards but then they can't make it to the race because they have no money.

Its hard for me to even watch races any more all the wasted TV time these riders are not making money with.
its almost like an info commercial.

Based on the average post on this board, they've nailed their demographics!

10/29/2012 6:13 AM

more importantly, between booty shakes, all they show is crashes. So when Joe Blow shows up to a race that is all they want to see and think that is all the "daredevils" do is crash. it's sad, it really is....when the core fans know what is going on and all the others that show up only know about, and talk about, every single crash and don't even know who won when talking over the coffee pot on Monday morning.

It used to be worse in the old days- nothing but crashes and Larry Huffman screaming about psychotic daredeviles, race fans hot rodddddders!!!! It was baaaaaad.

I don't know what it would take for the general public to accept moto. It's kind of tragic because in Europe it is much more respected.
Most non-riders I know simply consider motocross a mental disorder. I'm not kidding.
A guy at work told me his son had "outgrown" watching Supercross. The kid is like eight years old. I was pissed, but I said nothing, because to him I know it just a motorized freakshow.
Oh well....most things are harder than they look.

SX is not a race, it is a show.

MX is not a race, its a weekend of camping and partying.

Unfortunately, the demographics are precisely the same as those that are used to market this website.

Have you seen the Nissan/Infiniti commercial?

"we went to the desert and Dad did a million tricks...maybe a billion!". Shows a dirtbike endlessly doing backflips off the dunes, 'cuz, well, that's what we do.

A hate what modern day SX and Freestyle have done to the image of this sport.
