i have a suzuki rmz 250 2015 with 80 hs so i gave it to my mechanic to change the connecting rod, and the piston. all the new parts were oem parts. he assemble it with all the new parts and when he turn it on for the first time in the shop for the first 20 minutes it was running perfect and all of a sudden there was a very loud noise and the engine stoped. the results are in the pictures.
do you think was mistake he made or perhaps there was a failure in the new parts.

Ran just long enough for the wrist pin to slide out by the looks of it.

Check the crankcase bolts inside the ignition cover. I had an rmz 250 rebuilt one time instead of doing it myself and it did almost this exact same thing because a bolt backed out and was able to get into the crank housing. Destroyed everything.

Sudden stoppage for sure. Wrist pin, maybe( does it come down enough to catch on anything. Not familiar with that model......You would thing it would scar the plating big time)........Looks like it hit the valves.....Not surprising seeing the piston destroyed. One thing is for sure, that thing hit something solid......What does the wrist pin look like. How about the top of the piston. how about the wrist pin bearing???? More pics please.

20 minutes of just sitting there running?? Your mechanic has some questions to answer

Definetely your mechanics fault, he should be fixing that out of his own pocket.

Before i read any further it is obvious.

He didn't get that circlip in right and the piston pin backed out til it made the mess you see.

the top of the piston was perfect, only some scratches on the side that hit the valves. both intake valves were bent.
the wirts pin had also some scraches on right side. the same side were the piston was broken

Did you find any off the missing circlip? If it is totally missing then that would be the reason.

Let me look at these pics some more, that is one hell of a mess.

Yeah, wrist pin or piston pin some call it,backed out and caught the bottom of the cylinder. If it wasn't arched like that the cylinder wall would held it in till it wore a groove and power would been lost from blowby or broke ring or such . And you woulda probablynoticed metal in the oil long before then.

That is why to use paper filters and cut the open and unfold, that way you catch shit early.

But,that arch hooked it,i see the mark on its edge. So,the clip could be unharmed and laying around in the bottom,at the very least some pieces should be around,if none I make him explain that.

Yep. He missed something when he put it together (probably a wrist pin clip).

wow, look at that connecting rod and it pretty much tells you what happened.....The bent side surely hit solid and just grenaded the piston.......Bad day to be your mechanic.

PS....get that crank checked out by somebody good. It would not surprise me if it was bent too.

On a positive at least it happened in the shop and not on a single to table throwing you into a rich cain septic twist.

At least the piston was not too distorted from the first heat cycle. That piston pin still slid nice and free in it's bore.

You can see the obvious dinger on the bottom edge of the arch on the cylinder where the pin threw a leg out of bed, just under those beauty marks.

As soon as I seen the pictures I thought "circlip" IV seen this almost exact damage before and it was from a circlip.

Stuff happens. Give your mechanic the chance to make it right. If he does, he's worth keeping around. If this were my mistake, I wouldn't be expecting you to pay for a dime.

The only concern I have with this is the amount of carbon on the head. It seems excessive for only "20 minutes" of run time. I wonder how good of a job he really did cleaning stuff up. I can just barely see traces on the head of lapping marks. Seems like he may have been in a hurry and did a rush job.

Kind of hard to make a full diagnosis without seeing what's going on with the tail pipe
