Bruce Rutherford is my pick . Kid drove up to Oakland in his pick up truck and qualified 12th in the lites class. He had bad luck in LA, finished 13th in Phoenix on a bone stock motor.

I'm following him now that you just mentioned that. That is awesome!

For me it is Nick Paluzzi and Stroupe. I know Stroupe is fast but I didn't think he would like the Yamaha.

Yeah, for one, he is physically too big to do well on a 250F, and also, being on that JDR team as he is, he would be expected to qualify. Has now only qualified once from four starts. The team, and Tye would be very disappointed. Does that count as being a surprise ??

I wrote that during practice. It is disappointing they he did not qualify this week, I think he has been 1 place short twice this year.

Instead of being 1 for 4, I was hoping he would have been 2 for 4.

Rutherford has been the one in my opinion. Never heard of him till this year. Decotis has been tearing it up though being a fill in rider. Simmonds and Marmont have been close as well.

I would also put Weston Peick on this list, this is his second year ever in Supercross and going straight to the 450 class, which is very stacked this year. Weston has made two mains so far and is paying all of his expences.

Brett Metcalfe is the biggest suprise for me, who would of thought he would be showing top five speed by the fourth round? He seemed to get ovelooked coming into the season but he's definitely making people sit up and take notice.

mxmainiac08 He did good as amateur but what alot of people forget or dont know is that he went to a public school every day and just graduated last year. I think the kid has a huge future in mx.

As far as me picking a surprise rider ,I cant do it. Everyone of those guys out there is an amazing rider .

Good ride for Weston in SX. I look for him to shine more outdoors.

Paluzzi has been a surprise. Great kid too. Rutherford also went to public school. Both kids grew up racing in So Cal the difference being that Paluzzi had support from manufactures over the years and a trainer (Buddy Antunez for the last few years). Rutherford has bought their own bikes and Bruce's Dad, Bruce, has been his mentor. Watching Bruce race out of a pick up truck on worn out equipment over the years just makes it really cool to see his success. A true privateer imho.
