pic of Hannah jumping the triple at L.A. coliseum in 86?

Who posted that pic of Hannah jumping the triple in practice in 86 at the coliseum? Nowhere before had I heard that he had jumped it. It really wouldve changed a lot of opinion of Hannahs last years if it was known that he didnt refuse that triple out of lack of balls, but rather because of the condition of the track. Hannah was my hero and i was always bothered by my mental image of him not jumping that triple out of just fear.

He said out right that he didn't like jumping the big triples because they scared him so why would it bother you ? Doesnt change my opinion of him at all, that stuff scared the hell out of me I just didn't have the balls to admit it.

I totally get not wanting to fucking get hurt; i wouldnt jump them either, but it has been said through the years that Hannah was "afraid to jump". I always had the image that he just rode around and rolled over the tops of the jumps at the coliseum since all i ever read in mxa was "he held up his hand and didnt jump". It means not a fucking whit either way, I just wanted to see the pic again. It was cool to see him jumping it.

If I am on the same page with you, I was at that particular event (I have attended every SX / Mickey Thompson's Ultacross held at the Coliseum) so I am somewhat confident I am referring to the same event.

Hannah did attempt said "triple" (I just remember the leap being a l o n g double, I could be wrong) for a couple of laps, he had to, to be relevant. His last attempt damn near put him in the hospital, scared the shit out of him.

He was a spokesman for "safe and sane" obstacles after that, many times being very critical of unnecessary track conditions. Anyways, that's how I remember it going down. Feel free to correct me if need be.

Thats the one. I watched that coliseum race on espn in 86 and Hannah was interviewed and said "these tracks are too dangerous". I only saw parts of the race so I couldnt remember him jumping. He was just tired of being hurt id imagine. Dont blame him. I cant believe that his ultra powerful 86 rm250 didnt safely propel him over the jumps lol.

RE: MXA Suicide Mountain:

"The 1983 honor roll of riders who had etched their names in moto history included Jeff Ward (125), Phil Larson (500), Eric Eaton (500), Goat Breker (500), Broc Glover (500), Warren Reid (500), Danny Chandler (500), Billy Liles (250), Bob Hannah (250), Ricky Johnson (250), Mike Bell (250) and Tom Carson (250). Only 12 riders cleared the jump out of the 160 riders entered that day. Many others claimed to have jumped it (and many did jump high up into the face), and a few may have squeaked over, but most of the claims are based on the fact that every rider jumped, but only a handful made it over the top."

Bravery is not defined by an absence of fear.

It's defined by overcoming the fear that you have.

I remember back in 1983 i think it was, maybe in the rose bowl? Might have been a different place. But before the night show Bob Hannah refused to do the whoops. they ended up mowing them down for tonight show.

When Hannah jumped on the scene in the 70's, motocross tracks didn't have big triples. Even Supercross tracks had fairly tame obstacles. By the time he was nearing retirement, tracks had changed dramatically into double and triple jump infested tracks. Can't blame him.
He didn't sign up originally to be jumping huge death defying jumps. His greatest attribute was twisting the throttle harder and later than anybody else in rough, whooped out ground.
Its probably why he never wanted much to do with the sport afterwards...

This is the correct answer. It was a quad and he did double, double. I remember him trying to pass someone back in the whoops right after the quad and crashing into the bales on the edge. If memory serves me correctly, it may have been the LCQ and he was going for the last spot, and crashed out. Ended the night with a DNQ. They interviewed him and he basically said he didn't have it anymore. It was very sad to hear him say that.

Well, at least he redeemed himself the next year with a moto win at Southwick over RJ and a 125 ride at the MX des Nations at Unadilla.

The lip on that thing got so chewed up, It was sketchy in the first place, you lost so much momentum going up it, what only a couple guys like RJ did it on 250's. fun as hell jumping down the other side though!

That Is Gnarly Dude. Cannot even see the takeoff. How the heck is 125 going to make that jump. No run. Wardy, Omara bikes must have big power. Did the bomber do that jump?

Yep I was at that race too.
If my memory serves me correct RJ crashed the first lap and Cooper led most of the race until RJ passed him with a 1/2 lap to go.

Real Heartbreaker for Coop. Was that the same year?

You're thinking of '87. I was at that one too. Killer race.

Keep in mind that the 250 2 strokes we rode back then had the horsepower of a modern 250F or less and we had less over-rev.
