In my eyes Emil Sayfudinov is the best Speedway rider in the world at the moment. The reason he's not in GP's is because he's making more money racing for his clubs during the week plus he was stitched up financially by one of his sponsors.

This is way he's the best in the world

Oh yeah! The speedway guys are really fun to watch! Same as the TT and flat track guys...some border on insane. Very fun to watch indeed.

At 79 years young Harlan Bast still races in Auburn, finished the season 2nd in Third Division point standings.

Find archived and live stream of GP's here. http://livestream.com/SpeedwayGP
With 15 of the greatest speedway riders in for the series plus a wild card at each round. The wild card is from the home country, sometimes on their home track, ranging from a young gun possibly an under 21 champion to former GP winners the #16 on the program can add to the thrilling races.

I believe this is the best motorsports show, excellent camera work and replays with great graphics and expert commentary. Some of the stadiums have a great atmosphere and with minimal commercials they will do some people watching. Poland. Sweden, Denmark, England, Latvia/ Slovenia, Czechoslovakia and all around the world the music of choice at intermission is generally American/English rock n roll.

The close racing can make for lots of respect between the riders but also some fierce rivalry's. This is the kind of line ups speedway fans see regularly. In this race during a regular Swedish League meeting you have Micheal Jepsen Jepsen former under 21 world champion, Chris Holder former world champ, Nicki Pederson 3-time world champ known for being a bit ruthless on the track and Greg Hancock 3-time champ nicknamed Grin and known to be tough but friendly racer. This race was a few months ago, he got a 10 day suspension for his "flying shoulder tackle" as described in the English speedway media.

This is why Nicki has the reputation he does.

I'm always following these GPs since forever. I attended lots of races over the years. My first trip to the US was something like a pilgramage to the main american speedway tracks because a lot of great champions came over to race europian leagues and I always wanted to see wehre they all grew up. Sam Ermolenko talked a lot about these tracks in his biography so I had to go there. I was so surprised how different it all was. Talked to Shawn maddog McConnell in Costa Mesa about his time in England back than and just had a great time. I'm a speedway fan.

So as someone who is a novice to speedway who you just watched videos on YouTube for 20 minutes, it would appear fighting is encouraged not scorned? Lots of people fighting after the race, I like Moto better where they don't say anything and try to break their leg the next Moto.

Pretty entertaining though

Sometimes they show speedway ice racing on cbs sports from Czechoslovakia. Pretty hardcore.

How he hell did Emil keep that bike upright on all that loose dirt. He was way higher than the cushion!!! That's amazing.

I think they still use alky as fuel,my choice, and what kicks American flatracks ass is no brakes,no gears and ultra light chassis.

I recall being at the speedway races in Daytona 74 at the highschool track. I think at that time they added nitro to the fuel and the engine was a total loose oil system. One bike had the fuel oil mix somehow and it blew the engine cases out like a grenade.

Speedway bikes run with nothing but methanol and castor oil. These loose oil systems disappeared in the early 80s als far as I know but I remember them as well. The clutch still runs completely dry. As for the brakes, there's no need for them. The bike just stabilizes through the drift. It's crazy and it has not a lot in common with riding a motorbike. If you ever have the opportunity to ride one, do it. Once you've figured it out it's a lot of fun.

The Grand Prix series has been going for about 20 years previously the world championship was decided in one meeting. In 1982 Bruce Penhall came to the Los Angeles Coliseum and successfully defended his 1981 title.

He won the 1981 title with a couple of great last lap passes.
