My buddy hooked me up with this vid on vhs from back in the day.. His mom stopped recording me because it was so pitiful. Yes, those are pink side panels. It was a one-off track at the fairgrounds in Southern New Mexico. Yet, still, the worst moto of my life is still better than the best day in the office.

That guy was awesome. He probably would've won if he didn't crash 58 times.

Looked like the bike had no brakes and no knobs on the tires. Oh, and no springs in the suspension.

There was some pretty decent corner speed in there, but that bush excursion was awesome!

Admitting that you were in Deming and stayed and raced was your first hurdle. About the only town worse in NM is Gallup. Actually you were pretty fast when you stayed on track and your cornering was not so bad for a novice.

Hey man, in the late 80's into the 90's, we were lucky to have Deming. Other than that it was T or C and Flyin High in Alb. Deming was the closest traveling from Las Cruces. Actually back then, Deming was a big deal on a Sunday! It was a shithole, but it was THE shithole. Smile

My first race was at cyprus canyon in kernville, ca. They grouped my class (D) with A thru C in the same moto. Nobody bothered to tell me that, so first moto I crashed like 7 times trying to keep up with the fast kids. They were doing the flag start with hand on your helmet (no gate at that track), so second moto I just stomped it down in gear without using the clutch and pulled a huge holeshot. Proceeded to slide sideways in the second turn and highside, breaking my front brake lever. Pretty much ruined that moto.

Scoring in that race was terrible. They gave me first place in the second moto even though I was cruising around with no brake. First moto I got last and I was definitely faster, even though I crashed a couple more times than the second moto.

Best thing I remember from that day was getting a $50 holeshot gift card to the local shop.

Nowadays I know better. I would leave a track before I did a moto with a bunch of D riders thinking they are in a race with me.

That's exactly what I was waiting to happen on the 2nd lap!

Thanks for sharing, too funny.. My first race was similar except I was probably going too slow to crash.
