You'd think with only 5 posts in 4 years, you would aim for some substance and quality in your posts. lol

Chuck Norris is 1/8th Scottish. This has nothing to do with ancestry, the man ate a fucking Scotsman!

Let's see...

It was 2008 when I 1st sat with Davey & he filled me in on his quest...

For a proper "Sourhern National".

He's been searching for venues in locales that will support an event...for many years to come...so that the event will have some "staying power" (remember, all the while he's had the SoCal event turning into, literally, a Nightmare).

He's had some grand ideas at World Class locations...alas...waaaaay too much money in the current economy.

He's had a few PERFECT TARGET MARKETS...with NO Real Viable Track/Facility.

He's had Marketing/Promotional/Sponsorship packages changing on him like we're at a Musical Chairs Convention.

He's had "Licensing/Ownership" fees to pay that you'd call him stupid for paying.

And, most of all...he's looking at a South-Eastern event like its a "Home" race...in his mind.

You might be wondering if he could possibly...

Just...Possibly...

Be even more frustrated than you are?

He is.

But, here's the good news: He's a dedicated-very-hard-working-ABSOLUTE-Moto-Geek that is doing this for the only reason that matters...

He's a Coombs & this is what he does.

And, he gets it done.

Have faith...

Matthes. He's SO Hot this year. Matthes.

Amen. Thanks for speaking more of my mind than I could find words for.

It costs nearly the same to fly coach as it does to drive to Nat's. Track food/drink is much better now. You don't need coolers, grills, ez ups, etc. Depends how bad you want it. Are there airports in the S.E? If so come to Red Bud. DC is doing his best. No doubt about that. Hell he would have 50 nats (1 per week) 1 in every state if he could. All live on TV and internet. Please don't sling shit at the best person we have ever had improving the outdoor nationals.
That said it would be awesome if someone/company coordinated Pro Nat shuttle service to eliminate rental car expense. I would rather wait at a airport bar for 3 hours for a bus than pay $200 for a rental car just to drive 50 miles and park it for the day(s).

Still find it hard to believe there are only 12 national worthy tracks in the ENTIRE UNITED STATES.
Why not have a rotating schedule? Give a promoter the chance to hang themselves. If they suck; clip em.

Funny how socal has been through gh, pala and now elsi but nothing changes on the east.

6/21/2012 5:44 AM

Maybe it will be 4 years before the OP posts again?

DC wants one here as much as we do.

Being a little (a lot) too tough on a guy who dedicates his entire life to the sport we love so much...

Was our sport better off before DC and MX Sports? We are in better shape than Canada, Europe and every other country with respect to the growth of our sport.

7386 and your aim still sucks... Seriously his wording sucked but the message is real.

JoJmoto is probably correct. All new track on a completey different part of the land. Aonia has some hills that would make a very nice track, just not where the current track is. They already have a GNCC. It's close to Athens (partying) and easy to get to from interstate- Atlanta and Columbia. When DC and the Goat show up at an area qualifier and are obviously looking at more than just the current track, the rumors started flying even more than they already were.

6/21/2012 7:15 AM

I say not even a rotating schedule. how about go back to three classes where they spread around a little not always at the same track and you could satisfy everyone and wisconsin can finally get a national.

ok maybe not wisconsin but thats an idea that i think would help a lot because then people might bounce around classes and open up to more sponsors, team, fans and areas.

While these promoters are busy "hanging themselves" the series goes to hell in a handbasket and everything DC and company have worked so hard for goes with it. Rotating the races somewhere different every year is exactly what they don't want.

Building legendary events that have a long and storied history will bring the sponsors and fans back year after year.

DC and MX Sports deserve credit for taking the difficult path and continuing to pursue a venue (and promoter ?) that will be up to the high standard of the other nationals.

Before anyone does any public bashing they should put a good business plan together, present it to DC along with an invite to the venue they have lined up and i'm sure everyone at MX Sports would be enthused to participate. The person or group of people that successfully do that will no doubt be viewed with great respect by the industry, the moto community and reap the financial rewards that go along with it.

Personally i would like them to have it at Monster Mountain then Aonia pass. Way more elevation and way better dirt. Easy access to the highways and near Auburn and Montgomery.

We will get one in the S.E. soon. I heard 2014 but we will see.

They could also do it at Barber but they need to build a track and the place has more then enough facilities to handle a national.

I think all of us that live in the southeast have posted on this subject, and DC even kept us up to date on his search during the off season. i think they want it as much as we do. just be glad we have as many supercrosses that we can get to. but would gladly give one up to get a national at monster mt

@tomz

Freestone, & Colorado, worked out fine.
Pala, Binghampton, Glen Helen &Troy got axed. It changed nothing.
Going to elsi this year isn't going to change anything either.
I like the thoughts of 6 annual races and 12 other tracks alternating years to make up the other 6 rounds.

Every motosport/sport has a few famed venues, but not all of them can be the marquee stop.
Not every nascar track can be daytona, indy cars indy, mlb games wrigley, etc, etc.
What will bring sponsors & fans; is expanding the market to different audiences.
Imagine if MLB only wanted to play at a few marquee feilds and not the rest of the country.
It alienates a huge audience. Expansion teams/locations come and go in all other sports. The sports marquee spots and sport itself stay in tact. Some of the new spots work, some don't.

Fact is there are no nationals in the entire south or all the way up tornado alley. What other professional sport can say that?

I really like the progressive thinking of the one day saturday national and this is along the same lines. I remember the meltdown this place had when that was going on. I wish the "doing it for better tv" selling point would have held some water though.

Anybody know whatever happened to ABALLAMA's Barber Motorsport Park's " WORLD'S GREATEST MOTOCROSS TRACK " ?

From David Izer's post in the quoted thread:

SE National 2012
.....is going to happen.

DC mentioned on DMXS last night that a southeast race would definitely be on the 2012 schedule. No exact details, but needless to say that we're pretty excited down here in these parts.
