I got a new 14 ktm150sx and only had it out once at NCMP. I read that some mentioned changing rear sprocket from 48 tooth to a 50. Anybody try that? I haven't raced in 10 years and a vet now and not up to speed. I was having a little trouble coming out of corners and being on the pipe immediately. Thoughts? Thanks guys.
If that is the case I'd opt for going down a tooth up front, cheaper, easy, and the chain will work.
1 tooth up front is generally 3 in rear. Divide the front into rear and get your ratio, like 15/45 is a 3.0 to 1
A 14/48 is3.423 to 1. A 14/50 is. 3.571 to 1. A 13 /48 is. 3.69 to 1
I'd try rolling into the corners a little faster and making myself lay the bike over with the intention to coast as far as possible out the corner.
That is how i used to get faster, come into a corner, pull in the clutch and see how far i could roll after it.
For practice charge the corner pull in the clutch and stay off the brakes, this will make you lay the bike over and carry speed if you've set a goal to coast out to a point then try to beat that.
I never rode the response of the engine on 2 or 4 str, the clutch was what i use. And,a lot of detail went into making it easy to pull.
Lengthening the arm on the engine and modifying the fulcrum inside the engine.
On some old bikes i ground levers to fit in perches that gave a better ratio for easier pull.

I run 13/51 on my 144.
One thing a 4str will do is have a gyro effect when the revs are high. The cam chain, cam, and crank will add a noticeable resistance to direction change when revs are up.
Work the same weather you go smaller up front or bigger out back. 12 is about as tight as I would want to turn a chain. 13 is better.
Went up to a 50 tooth. Had to buy new chain too.
You are definitely shifting more but it is way easier to keep it on the pipe.
Coming off a yz125 I expected the 150 to have a little more throttle response/ low end....but it is just the opposite.
PC pipe and shorty silencer helps some too.
I get great starts on this bike.
