The 150 was the 144 and the 105 has to be a big wheel punched out 85...The best is a stripped down 200exc, nimble and power...

Like GuyB said and because there is a market for them.....the same reason the make 4 strokes in the following displacements 250f, 350f, 450f, 525f.

I allaud KTM for catering to what their customers want not the other way around like the "Big 4"

Good question. Simple answer: They offer the riders what they want, not what KTM wants to sell you.

My kids grew up on KTMs starting with 50s, then 65s, then 85s now 105s. One jumped ship to a blue bike because of support from a good dealer but they are still 2-Strokes.

Remember back when when Honda had the Z50, MR50, CR60, SL70, XR75, CR80, SL125, XL125, CR125, MR175, CR250...

Remember back when when Yamaha had the YZ60, YZ80, YZ100, YZ125, IT175, YZ250...

Remember back when when Suzuki had the RM60, RM80, RM100, RM125, PE175, RM250, RM360...

Remember back when when Kawasaki...You get the idea.

Somehow the Japanese manufacturers forgot the customer. KTM is offering models for every want and every taste out there. They make bikes in all ranges for kids to grow up on. The neat thing is a lot of the components that fit on a KTM 85 fit on a KTM 250. Mass produce the same widget for multiple platforms. End result lower costs and less stocking requirements for the dealer. So why the 105/125/150. Stepping stones. Small steps. No need to throw Johnny to the wolves when he has to go from a RM85 (Small Wheel) to a RMZ250.

As they say, I'm just sayin...

The 105 was built for the supermini class, Kawasaki has the KX100, Suzuki did too along with a big wheel 85. Honda had the CR85 big wheel version and Yamaha offered all the accessories to convert the YZ85 to the big wheel version. As far as the 125, that class provided the best racing in the history of the sport with all the up and coming stars trying to prove their mettle. The AMA in their infinite wisdom stuck a knife right in the back of all that was moto and most of the big four were all too happy to pile on in the name of higher profits. The 150, well that was a result of the bumbling idiots of the AMA trying to backpeddle their way out of allowing a double the displacement advantage to the four strokes. And along comes the red helicopters....

KTM has not thrown a good portion of the sport of motocross under the bus quite like the Japanese and I can appreciate that.

The 105, as newmann said, is for the Supermini class. The 125 is traditional, but it's also required for the Schoolboy 1 class. The 150 is for being competitive against the 250F in the Amateur 250F class. Really quite simple.

Big props to KTM for having such a huge lineup of bikes. That's what the bike market really needs.
