Imagine how hard he would crash on a real track.

Very true tho.....

10/26/2012 7:12 AM

IMO, thats why James doesn't shine the way he used to! In today's tracks, there is nothing to separate his skills from his competitors. Of course now he needs to find other ways to go faster, because the days of difficult rhythm sections and whoops are gone.

10/26/2012 7:18 AM

He's not wrong...

If I hear one more Feld/AMA/SX person, whoever the hell is responsible say we don't have anymore dirt I'll freak out...

A couple times these last years there were no berms, small jumps, small landings and rythm sections were just singles... no tables, no steps, nothing... so shit

Cheers,

Crush

even as late as 2004 the tracks were so different. Racing used to be better and the elite stood out.

Also the # of lappers and people rolling around now in the mains is a joke and messes with every single race.

Why do we need a full gate when half the riders hold up the real race?

Anyone?

Make a privateer series that runs after the pro mains.

The amount of dirt used is pathetic. Notice how full the mec track was? Ricky knows whats up. Bowlturns for days.

It was 2009 when they had the riders design like 6 different tracks? I went to Indy and watched the Larocco one and it was bad ass. Remember TP's track in STL that had that crazy wall turn?

I remember the Pontiac years had gnarly whoop sections always.

That St. Louis track was the best track that was made that year in my opinion. I remember J-Law absolutely railing that wall turn like it was nothing. They definitely need to go back to letting retired riders design the tracks because that was a great year for track designs.

Matthes talks about changing up the format to freshen up the series alot lately...

But does that make sense when they cant even get tracks right?

Rvs crash from touching cement.

Reedys constant criticism.

Inconsistent builds from track to track.

I wish there were standard sizes and shapes to obstacles so that practice track builders could duplicate them and everyone got to ride and race on am equal track like f1 or something...

That would make the bikes set up and riders the primary focus in determining results... making racing theoretically better......

But that would make racing more like nascar. I dont want the riders coming to a track already knowing what to expect. And if we got the same freaking tracks every year for supercross, it would be extremely boring. It works with the nationals but theres no way I would want it to be instituted in supercross as well.

It could or it could give everyone an advantage and tighten up racing and competition. Not sure which.

I just think we have a great series that needs its details refined... dirt type, amount and consistency/ quality.... exciting and challenging designs that take skill to execute let alone excel on.... just little things that all play into what really goes on during the races.. lapper control, maybe black flag all people who start rolling consistantly

Someone put up a video of that race please! I remember James passing Reed like he was standing still around that wall turn and pulled a gap and then crashed a few laps later. That track was badass

10/26/2012 7:45 AM

I agree with James...but then again, he is just saying what every real rider is saying. Unfortunately, the tracks are built for TV coverage, low lap times with an eye toward making races TV friendly so they can make time for the 100+ Progressive & Toyota commercials during each race...and what the riders want doesn't make it into the hat. As long as Feld is involved, it'll continue to be the same, or progressively worse. The ever decreasing amount of dirt used for tracks is all because they are trying to squeeze the most juice out of every dollar too...go figure.

^^ this^^. Remember that SX this year, I think it was a Anaheim race or it was LA, they had a section he was the only one doing and he killed em that night....

The 2009 Houston

I know this has been said a million times...but amazing to see JLaw hauling butt, looking so good here...and compare it to where he's at just a few years later. Sad...

Let's just FF to the outdoors.

Dude was one of my favorite riders.

Behavior aside i gravitate towards the naturally gifted riders as a rider and fan myself.

James is on the next level so are rv, chad and Lots of other guys.

Better tracks = Better racing = Better show = Better profit.

Ya diggg Feld??????

I know you hear us

I think you are talking about A2 2011. He was quading everything on that crapped out Yami, no less. I remember RV trying to do it trying to stay with James and almost ate shit. And then there was Daytona 2011 when was jumping that wall jump! that was crazy

10/26/2012 8:04 AM

I would think js7 would stomp everyone on a local supercross track. How about concentrating on finishing a series instead of tayloring each race to your needs. If they set cones up on the concrete floor you could still have good racing. Give me a break!

I knew Stewart crashed out a couple of times in that 2009 race but man between those crashes and when he is ridin like that he is freakin epic!!!

Erin sure was a hottie a few years ago too :-)

Stewart is right! Tracks now a days are build for four strokes. Less technical + spaced out jumps + less dirt + higher speeds + flat turns + excess power + more weight = more injuries. Progression or regression?

10/26/2012 9:30 AM

Watch that race, 1999 Houston, then watch any supercross from last year. What are the differences you see in the tracks?

• More jumps packed into the same area then (1999).
• More turns then (1999). They would change direction more often whereas now you have a straight the length of the stadium followed by a 180 for another straight the length of the stadium.
• Jumps are less cookie cutter then (1999). Each jump was different size and shape. There were double-step ups, double-table tops, and every king of variety you can think of.
• The speed is much faster now with less obstacles to slow them down.
• They had bowl turns where now the turns are more flat.

Others?

The era of the 4 stroke is what has made SX a lot easier then what it used to be, on the 2 stroke you had to be on the gas 24/7 to do the impossible rhythm sections. The sheer power of the 4 stoke makes it easier for 90% of the field now.

No It does not... Reason being Doug Henry prime example... and windham when the first 450s came onto the scene.

Everyone said "Because of the way the power hits, the jumps cannot be as peaky etc, because of the tiny tiny delay that used to happen on the 4-strokes"

Now they have no excuse, there is no longer a bog associated with the bikes.

So they need to stop rounding jumps off, and making these easy cookie cutter designs.... (Doesn't help that feld. wants triples on each outside lane of the track, and i believe there has to be one whoop section in there contracts, i could be wrong though)

That Tp sx track is a prime example of what we should have on sx tracks.

Things that we used to see alot
- More Dirt
- Over Under Bridges
- Dragon backs to Dragon backs
- Wall of death (dont like it, glad they left it out)
- Moguls (They half assed them in MEC)
- Fingers (kind like whoops but off set, these could be awesome if they were to do them reverse and put the huge hump in the middle)
-step up- step up- step off (haven't seen this since mcgrath was around)
- Off Camber Corners,(we don't see this anymore)

So much shit they could do, But i don't think field wants too.
