I usually punch my dog in the face a few times before I leave for the track.

being really fit is physical training, mental training is just that preparing your mind ...

start by reading and understanding what is out there...

do you mediatate ?
deep breathing exercizes ?
visualize your lines ?
do you play Guns and Roses when you win ?

I like to do burnouts in the parking lot of the track and once there is enough dust kicked up to cover everyone around me. I get out and yell that I will kick any ones ass who has a problem with the nasty donuts I did. Then I set up a weight bench in the dirt and lift.

Do any of you remember the audio tapes Bailey used to listen to that helped with the mental side of it?

I find it better to pick boogers on the gate and wipe them on the guys next to me. They freak out so much that when the gate drops I already have a 5-10 second lead over them. Anything to get that $3 plastic trophy.

All jokes aside, I like to warm up my bike for a good 45 minutes on the stand, reving to the limiter every 30 or 40 seconds. Really helps me get my head straight from all the coke and hookers from the night before.

Doing pull-ups in the port-a-potty never hurts either.

Don't forget you have to make a couple passes through the pits popping wheelies and doing donuts. Gotta make sure people know that you're just as good if not better in the pits then you actually are on the track.

I think that it really depends on the person believing in themselves and accomplishing all of your goals you set for yourself. When I run the half marathons I compete in, I try to stay focused on the time/pace I'm trying to keep. If I get tired during the race, I try to find something else to focus on to keep my mind off of thinking about quitting or stopping.

The same would apply for motocross. If you are tired and are thinking about pulling over and stopping or giving up on passing that guy in front of you, find something else to focus on. Find certain jumps on your track and take a deep breath and learn to relax. Keep your focus on what you want to accomplish.

I had to text him to remember the damn name. Those things were so bizarre. Whatever works, I guess!

I have the opposite problem. I show up believing I am the baddest man on 2 wheels. Then the gate drops and I paddle around in last because I'm old and fat LaughingLaughingLaughingLaughing

I had those and they worked!!! at least I believed they did which is why they worked probably. I wish I still had them. Listened to them literally thousands of times when I was a teenager. They were called "The Raw Method" self hypnosis tapes.

DB says that he won Dallas in 86 because of those tapes. Said it helped him get his mind right.

I'm sure not going to argue with him.

I always have my father open-hand slap me across the face as hard as he can. I scream "yea dad! yea dad! do it again!" Everyone is doing it.
