150 motor is basically like a 85-100cc 2 stroke so I think it would be way underpowered.

Even 85's are faster than the 150 pig.

No I have not ridden one, I am an adult. My son races 85 and supermini against 150s and 150s are not any faster than a supermini or most 85's for that matter. What 125 are you referring to a ttr?

I'm not trying to start a pissing match here, it to me doesn't make sense to put a kids size motor in a adult size frame. If you want a 4 stroke then a 250f makes sense.

They are pretty darned close. My wife's 150R made 22rwhp stock. That's about 7lbs per hp.

I've spun some laps on it and it hangs pretty close to a fat man on a 250F.

I'm not disagreeing the fact that that they are fast, same can be said for a supermini (insert Adam Ciancarillo) but to comment on the original question I don't think it is powerful enough to push around a full size chassis like it does a mini.

22hp in a 125 frame would be fine for a beginner, etc.

Those honda 150 motors have some punch. But even for a full grown beginner, I'd suggest a 250F over putting a 150 in a 125 frame.

However, we don't really know what application the bike will be used in. Maybe the OP can give us a little more information as to what the bike will be used for and why he asked the question.

My old man has a couple 150Rs as play bikes and I think some of you guys are underestimating those motors. I think a 150R motor in a full size chassis could be fun to play around on. It would be more like an old 100 school 100 bike with a small motor in a full size frame.

Yea id rather go to other way like SH does and put a 250F engine in the superminis frame. Now that would be the ultimate trail/track fun bike for short guys like me.

its for a coworkers girlfriend she has a 150 and really likes it but shes quiet a bit too tall for it so in this case it does kinda make senso because she is a beginner rider and doesnt need a bike with as much power as a 250 f so I was just wondering if anyone had done it so we coould get some feedback.

Get her a ttr230 or something. Honestly though most modern 250s are pretty mellow. I know plenty of beginner girls on them.

Yep a 230 is a pretty fun bike.. It shouldn't be that hard to get the motor in the frame, but you may need spacers, etc since the motor is smaller. I'm wonderin if a 230 motor would be easier, but i think its taller than the CRF150 motor.

If she's tall find something like a KDX200 or maybe a KTM200 if the funds permit. Much more low end torque than the 150 so they're easy to ride (especially the KDX), but without the ridiculous weight of a CRF/TTR230 type bike.

If they're looking for a project, stuff a KDX200 motor into a KX125 frame. Mellow power, super reliable motor, low weight, great handling in a full size chassis. There are several such hybrid threads on ThumperTalk that can help if that looks like the direction they'd like to go in.

why do you think the engine would just bolt into a completely different framed/brand bike?

I think a 150f engine in a big bike chassis would be awesome!! Post it up if you decide to do so. I don't see how it would be any different than the full size 50cc bikes (Beta, Fantic, etc) out there other than having way more power.

A150R engine transplant into a 125 chassis could make a really good bike for a taller beginner girl/woman. I doubt anyone around here has any experience with that particular conversion.

What is there to transplanting an engine? Is it just to get the engine straight with the rear axle and the proper position front to back? I would guess that means welding a couple of new engine mounts? Is there more to it assuming the engine fits in the frame?

If she's 5'8" or under a tall seat & bar/riser combo might offer a viable alternative. Most beginners prefer a seat height that allows both feet on the ground simultaneously. And it's a much less expensive option than swapping engines.

Put her on the slow 250f, that's the honda. It will be great for her.

Yeah, I understand that, but this bike isn't for racing. Of course a 150R doesn't compare to a 125...that's what the 250f is for. Laughing

just detune a 250f or make a 125 more tracable

engine swaps tend to be headaches and require more work than you think

Tell me to dump the 150 and get a crf250x. A rekluse wouldn't hurt. That's what we moved my wife to when she realized the TTR was too small a frame. She didn't care for the 150f or 200xc/sx.. The 250x lets her lug it mad is very linear. She is 5'7"'.
