experiences with magura clutch?

I've heard great things and I've heard they're no better than stock. What are your experiences?

easy clutch pull but most stock bikes are not that bad. they don't slip quite the same way which on a two stroke I don't like as much, the 450 its not a big of deal. also if you get a leak your DONE. had that happen once after a crash .and it wasn't noticeable right away. that would have never been a issue with a cable but I bought my bike that way.

A hydraulic clutch could leak from a crash just as easy as a cable could get ripped off. Either way, no clutch.

KTM isn't stupid. Many local riders have discovered the benefits of easy pull and consistent action using a hydraulic clutch.

I rode with one for years....never had a failure except for breaking off the perch in a crash one time.

My father in law just put one on his bike and it seems pretty easy to pull,but the stock one wasn't too difficult either. He rides a 2011 kxf 450.

I've put them on a few bikes. Mostly the older YZF's that had real heavy clutch pull, and they were 1 finger great. Even put one on an 02 CR250 to lighten the pull for a guy with a gamie hand. All good for me.

The easier the pull, the less arm pump you get. Every bit helps in the arm pump battle!

Consistent action that just works. At least on these big tanks we ride now, slipping the clutch isn't done much...I never rode hydraulic on a two smoker.

yeah that's where they feel weird. ive ridden with them on Honda 450s and were just fine

It's not because of or in spite of, the hydro clutch.

There's no real reason a cable clutch and hydro clutch can't have the same pull, that's more to do with clutch springs and lever ratios. But a hydro clutch pull stays constant, all the time.

I've ridden off-road and a some motocross for twelve years on a variety of KTM's and never had a failure, nor do any maintenance.

The Magura clutch on my KX 250 does pull easier. I can use 1 finger instead of 2. When I broke the clamp on the perch and had to switch back to a cable I would use 2 fingers and my arm still pumped up. They don't fade like mentioned also. For me, using one is like having fly by wire brakes in a car. Once you get used to the range of motion in it you don't need that feedback feeling from a cable clutch to know where it's at in relation to RPM's and clutch bite.

BSharkey. I have one on my 2013 CRF450. It can make a big difference in pull effort. Huge on my bike which was newly changed to a 6 spring clutch. I run Pro Circuit springs too. My clutch is butter. If you get one, find the perfect play amount THEN locative the adjuster star nut as it WILL back out and cause excessive play. BUT, I highly recommend this set up. Always in proper adjustment when set up properly and very nice modulation.

Hydraulic clutches have been on production bikes since 1993(Gas Gas trials bike). Hydaulic clutches have been on cars for decades. Why do the japanese still use cable actuated is beyond me. The fine touch of a hydraulic actuated clutch is great, especially with the DDS spring on the 13 and later KTM's.

For me they have been a bullet proof, can't live without item. I've had two clutch systems last through my last 5 bikes. About to swap it over to bike number six today!

I've heard nothing but good about them. Having said that, I rode a friend's CRF450 with a Rekluse on it in 2008 and never looked back. If you want to talk about reduced fatigue and arm pump levels there is nothing that compares. Also increases confidence in corners and on nasty hills.

Okay now you guys really have me considering one hahaha. Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't they incredibly easy to install. Not much different than changing a standard clutch cable?
And what recommendations as far as oil in them

Magura blood or just plain mineral oil. Buy a flush/syringe or the magura kit for bleeding.

Fork oil works also great in KTM Magura clutches. I have ridden KTM's two stroke's with hydraulic clutch since 2005 and wouldn't want to go back to cable clutch.

I haven't seen anyone using the retrofit magura for a while. Have they changed the engine side mounts? They were so cheesy back around 06-08 from what I saw. Have they gotten better on that side of the bike? And not the KTM's just retrofit bikes.

Yes, they have gotten DRASTICALLY better. The 2.0 mount is now actually pretty good. And you're right, those old mounts were junk.

Edit: They changed the slave cylinders to be much more compact, and they just use the stock mount.
