The entire idea of career numbers isn't my cup of tea. Wear the number you earned.

Exactly, no reason for this idiotic game of musical numbers. It's a lot easier to identify a rider in the track when they don't keep changing the numbers every year, I don't see any advantage to this system. For example, we all know Pourcel as 377, but now he has to run the number 30. Pretty pointless in my opinion.
377 ! he must be a lapper. Silly

x2 for run what you earn.

I'd prefer they race the number they earn, like day's of yore..

but, it's just a damn identifying number and pretty inconsequential in the general scheme of things...

I'm partial to AC's number 50. He probably will only run it one year, but it is still cool to me.

Shows what I know! I could have sworn he's run 48 in SX for a couple years...

EDIT: Hmm, nevermind. I'm not sure why I thought he had had that number for a while.

Actually that's still not correct for the old school # system because you didn't account for all the 250sx regional points.

For instance all 25 of Topher Ingalls points came from the West Coast SX, under the old system he wouldn't get a 2 digit number as he went to Canada to race this summer. Dean Wilson only shown 204 Outdoor points and 47 450sx points, etc...

You are correct. I just used this years total points as they score them now.

This new system makes me feel bad for a guy like Dakota Kessler that busted his ass all summer and earned 14 National points, but has nothing to show for it. The old way would've rewarded him with a number somewhere in the 80's. I guess that's the price for progress...

What about guys branding for sponsors? Guys like 7 duece duece have fans and a brand for his #. If he does good next year he is awarded a # and then the branding is lost. I think if you want to run a number then you get to pick by your ranking. This number system is stupid.

I think that the top 10 shouldn't be allowed to be career numbers if you finish in the top 10 at the end of the season, thats a big achievement, I think you should be allowed to take that number for next season, or at least the top 3 being the podium numbers.

I don't think that we have career numbers over here in Australia, although I don't know the rule book inside out, but I'm sure you can only claim a number if you finish inside the top 100 of the national championship. if you don't want to claim it you get first dibs on your previous number from the last season so long as you renew your licence before the new year, if you fail in doing this you get issued a new number.

Not 100% on this but I got it from somewhere, unless i made it up...

I like the idea of cRrer numbers outside top ten. Or maybe top 5. So top 5 run what they earned. Sort of how #1 works.

top 10 should be how they finished the year before. The rest, should have their own number. That way, the casual observer start to get to know the back markers, the front runners are easy to remember their new numbers.

I think they all should wear the number they earn. It gives the causal observer a good general idea of who the top guns are.

How about Pourcel having to run 30! That's an excuse to not show up.

I think they should do what makes the rider the most money.

7 duece duece is a perfect example as said above.
