Oxycontin was marketed as an alternative to addictive pain relievers also. I suggest taking everything big pharma says with a grain of salt. But it does sound promising.

Doesn't Humana fix everything already.. Can't shit? Take Humana. Heart problems. Take Humana. Viagra got you up to long.. Take Humana. Side effects are likely to be death or dizziness or constipation and loss of mind.. But yeah more wonder drugs sound great to me.

Big pharma scrambling to come up with more synthetic chemical concoctions that they can market as "safer opioid alternatives" just as the legal marijuana snowball continues to get bigger.. Imagine that. (the can of worms has just been opened)

After 3 back surgeries and finally an artificial disc at my L5, I didn't ever think I'd be able to stop taking the pain pills. As many as my doctor was giving me for years it about killed me stopping. Regardless of who you are they'll get the hooks in and ruin your dam life. Tramadol does help but is about as habit forming as anything out there. Lets hope there's a future in this stuff and like you said, hopefully it won't take ten years to get here.

Just wait for the TV commercials. Side effects include erectile distinction, intestines in your stool, male boob enlargement, baldness, testicular cancer, crossed eyes, color blindness, desire to get fucked in the ass....... ..........

Most of these wonder drugs cause more problems than they cure.

So, are you suggesting "taking" an insurance company?

I'm not suggesting anything. I am an MD though. "Motorcycle Doctor". I would have to consult a scientist before I put anybody on suggestion due to obvious reasons.

Their is already a natural plant that causes zero respiratory depression and relieves pain as well or better than morphine. It grows in Indonesia and Malaysia. It's called kratom and is a relative of the coffee plant. Just like with marijuana the DEA is trying to stop it from being imported to the U.S. because they can't figure out a model to turn a profit off of it. Big pharma does not want people to know about this because they can keep you addicted to pain pills and that means you come back every month to fill a script , putting more money in their pockets. They did the same thing with stevia initially, a zero calorie natural sweetener. That is until they could find a way to make money on a naturally occurring product.

I take tramadol for knee pain and have for a few years. My insurance company only fills 2 weeks worth at a time but some times, that 2 weeks worth will last 2 months and as much as 4 months as my pain comes and goes and the doctors cant find out where its from. So, I think its the person. Ive never had that moment where I thought I needed a pain pill when I didnt have any pain.

Kratom. Same opioid receptor binding. Jury is still out, technically, on its addictive properties. Hydrocodone is the most filled rx in the US, 130 million in 2010, generic. Usually, the top 10 are made up of mostly generics. Big pharma is in the brand business. But, I get your point.

Absolutely. It is only a partial agonist and does not bond strongly at that. At least it can't kill you in an overdose. They have tried in rats and couldn't succeed. Any pain reliever worth it's salt will bind to an opiod recepter or an nmda receptor. No free passes when it comes to pain relief. Their are better options than morphine derived big pharma produced products though that will hopefully not produce "junkies" like we are used to seeing on the news now.

Good points. Its legal in some states, I think. We will see how it shakes out. But I can guess that we know what will happen.

I don't understand the big deal about Marijuana. Not that synthetic shit or whatever else people spike it with. Doing that is flat out stupid.

But Marijuana itself is no worse than alcohol in my opinion. It's proven to help with cancer treatment and for people that get seizures. And it helps with pain relief. Plus, you can't overdose on it. And it's not addictive (regardless of what anyone says.) I mean, nicotine is addictive as hell and it's legal. People wreck cars while driving drunk and kill people, but we still have beer commercials everywhere. It's a double standard.

First Google search of kratom high shows just why it isn't released. Guy said if you're not used to IV Heroin you'll be too high. Being active, not overweight, and acetometaphin will limit most everyone's pain with a few exceptions.
