If you have the money to splurge, I am a big advocate for a 14 and up YZ250F. It is an excellent bike.

really a 426 isnt the worst bike, its just you can buy a much improved 4stroke for a few more bucks. even a 03 yz450f would be better. really itll depend on how much you have to spend but anything 08 and older should be had for under 3000

Doubt someone looking to purchase a yz426 has the extra extra money for a 14' yz250f Smile

Honestly, if you can find even an older used YZ250f, they are pretty solid, at least the early 2000's were. There are vet owned bikes out there that have been ridden very little and lightly that would serve you well.

I don't think you'd like a 426 after coming off a 125..

Pile of crap , imo, gearboxes were So soft, front forks were terrible, bitch to start when hot . Was a tank to turn . The first 400 was alot better bike imo.

Take the advice you see here and either save your money till u can buy a newer fuel injected bike or stay on a two stroke. The way I look at it is any fourstroke with a carb is a ticking time bomb, the 08 honda 450 is good but the older Suzuki kawi and yamaha a are total piles as far as durability goes. If u could figure out a timeline that it would take u to save up for a new or good condition 13+ honda 250/450 that would be your best bet in the long run. Atleast then your riding with a motorcycle that regulates your engines intake so you don't grenade yourself into a 2/3 thousand dollar problem. If it were me I would save until I could buy a nice used 450 Honda 2013 or newer.

The two stroke advice was a good one. You guys got to realize, a 14 yr old cant afford a new bike. For him to save up for that your talking years. Unless his parents help him out. I just picked up a 2002 CR250 that runs great for 1k. Why does he need a brand new bike anyways? Im happy with my 08 KX450F! My friend has a 2001 YZ426 & I bet hed smoke half you guys on your shinny new bikes lol

I'd love to have one of my 99 400s back. I wouldn't take it anywhere someone might see me, or put it in my truck unless it was dark. But they're really fun to ride as long as nobody sees you.
