Why, when they head to the 1st heat, does the rider never have his helmet? I have always wondered this. For all the practices...the rider leaves the pits with his helmet on...but not for the heats, etc.

Right, opening ceremonies and in james case, there can be 3 heat races before you line up on the gate..usually by the start of the 2nd 250 heat, the 450 guys will have their helmets on......
