Everyone except those pesky MX racers knows this. Those MX guys think they are so hardcore.

Is been said before. Motocross is hard but the worlds hardest sport is continually brought up due to the lack of recognition we get.

Question, what would be more tough for RC, when he was in the best shape of his life... 30 minutes plus 2 laps on a
motocross bike of his choice or 30 minutes plus 2 laps pushing when needed, and riding the best mountain bike
money can buy around GH?...

As hard as he can go on both bikes for 35 minutes? RC was chubby and winning in his early years, Could a chubby
anybody win, pushing and riding a mountain bike race around GH?

I remember Barcia saying MTB was tougher on live tv...

The +2 laps on a MTB at Glen Helen would be almost another 30 min wouldn't it? Silly

Ok, what would get your heart rate higher and be more demanding for you 35 minutes of which?
Going hard as you can even pushing on the MTB or hard as you can moto...

I know how tough moto is, it just makes me wonder, because the greatest of all time in motocross, would be the
last kid to be picked in gym class...

I ran a marathon in 1997. Did it in just over three hours. The last six miles were pure hell.

Looks a lot like Puyallup Raceway, About 1977.

My Uncle by marriage is Pat Jacobson and Godfather is Billy Joyce. I have some pretty cool pictures from that place back in the day.

Yes. Until you have ran a marathon, don't knock it. Going 6 miles suffering, is definitely akin to pushing hard on an mx track the last ten minutes of a long moto. 26.2 miles is no simple running feat for the average person.

From a purely physical standpoint, there are a few things pretty close to or the same as motocross in effort. Add in the other skills of controlling a 230lb bike in motocross conditions takes it to another level.

And don't ask about people who compete in Ironman - going 45 mins hard on an mx bike, pales somewhat to going 140.6 miles under your own power, in 3 different disciplines, on the same day, one after the other.

Respect to ALL endurance sports. Each has a unique aspect of toughness.

Moto by far can be the toughest. Can be. Reason, all muscles are being used, at all times. Also, because its so fun, you don't notice until after how hard it was! I took a high level cross country runner on a ride, and they really sucked, but afterword, they were toast!

No my uncle knows best. "When your son's quits racing the motorcycle and gets in a stick and ball type sport, then he can get into shape" . I guess from an outsider, twist throttle and sit on seat.

The only thing I've done that is as close to a full body workout and pushes my cardio as hard as an intense moto is Muay Thai. I train 4-5 times a week and even the pad work kills, but after a few rounds sparring I'm just hoping to get knocked out to end the misery. Somehow I always want to come back though.

I was just being a bit of a smart ass. I've been around this sport since '72 and this debate has been raging at least as long as I have been involved, probably longer. I have never heard a definitive answer to this debate but all of us who have participated at least semi-seriously at some point know deep down inside what the real truth is. The rest of the world just doesn't understand but that's okay. We know better!

I agree that some sports are harder more demanding or equal to motocross fitness wise such as running and moutain biking as mentioned above. But the topic is toughest sport and in other sports you aren't pelted with roost, covered in gear head to toe, moving at high speed with no protection as far as seat belts and roll cages go, while being chased or even ran into by other riders, or flying through the air. Nothing really meets all around what motocross demands. That being not only very physically demanding but dangerous at the same time.

Comparing sports as far as physical demands is often apples and oranges. Very different demands and very little crossover. Motocross is damn tough, though. No denying that.

Anecdotal, I know- but I brought a Cat 1 road cyclist buddy of mine out to a track for a practice day prior to a race and he was absolutely dusted by the end of the second twenty minute practice session. We rode dozens of other times after that and he was never able to even stay on the same lap as me after ten minutes. The guy absolutely smoked me on a road cycle every outing, though.

Could not agree more. Love motocross but it is not the toughest sport by a long way. Boxing, mma, gymnastics. Maybe its the toughest motosport
