Dungey will have this wrapped up before Vegas. Time and time again Tomac shows the blazing nights then comes back with an 8th or something. Great ride for him tonite for sure.
Dungey will beat Eli more than Eli will beat Dungey. I like them both, and I actually like Tomac more, but Eli needs 13 more good starts to even have a shot at it.
Personally I think he needs to get rid of the idea that "he is back". Sure he has high expectations of himself, but really just take the win and look forward. Say it was a good night, things worked well, but we have work to do because we are in a hole. Get out of the mental pit, just move forward.
tomac's achilles heal has been his starts in SX. if he can get them figured out CONSISTENTLY, i think he will have finally arrived in the SX big boy class.
i sure hope he does/has.... it will sure add some excitement back after losing a bunch last week.

this year.... but traditionally its been his starts he's not been consistent with. he even said on the podium "he's been in a funk for the last few weeks and isn't the type of rider to push it to the ragged edge if he's not comfortable." now we know he can roll for 20 + 1, it's not a conditioning thing (which i think few believed it was).... if he can get consistently good starts, he will be a threat.
He lit a fire tonight....but he needs some more wins or runs at the front to get that fire blazing again.
I get bummed watching him some times , because i know he's capable of rides like tonight. He's my favorite guy out there , would love to see him do more of what we saw tonight.
When Eli is running 100%....beat anyone , any where.
This was Tomacs kind of track tonight. He's way too inconsistent to beat Dungey for the title. He will have races like last night where we say, holy shit he's here to stay. He's going to win this thing. Then all of a sudden he will finish 5th three weeks in a row.
I hope I'm wrong. I hope Tomac and Dungey slug it out and it comes down to the final race. I'm a huge fan of both guys, so I would be excited for either one.
Stunning performance last night, but I think he needs to show that in the next few races too. We've seen him do this a few times in the past and then not be able to carry it on
That's what everyone said after Daytona last year.
How did that work out.
Daytona is a bit of a different story, but no doubt that same thing crossed my mind last night. Even with this win it's hard to know where Tomac really stands, these next few rounds for him will be key.
Yeah I think it's a little early to say he's fixed, if he gets a bad start and comes through the pack next week I'd be more hopeful to say he'll be battling for it. That holeshot allowed him to get that triple-triple-triple in the first section and it was over from there.

I was thinking the same thing. Reed said the same thing kind of too. They say they are "back" but to me that's a dumb state of mind. There are so many good riders that had off weekends. Just take the good weekend and try and build off of it. Don't get a false sense of where you are because both of them are just a shitty start away of another 8th place finish. Then are you not back again? Lol To me Dungey has the best state of mind. He never gets ahead of himself confidence wise. Just grinds away.
If he can back that win up with two more wins out of the next three rounds I'll say he's clear and good to go. Dungey was clearly off the pace last night as was Marvin which is extremely rare. Time will tell.
He cleared the cobwebs after Daytona and Southwick as well. I think what we have seen out of Tomac so far, is what we will continue to see; hot and cold performances. Has there ever been a rider that has turned it around 3 years into the 450's and became a dominant guy??

He doesn't need to start dominating, he just needs to take the wins when he can get them and stay on the box when he can't. He does that the rest of the season, he's cleared the cobwebbs imo. Let's not forget he was hurt for a few good stretches of his 450 career.

The real Eli was back, and alone on top of the world.
Amazing.
