JS7 can come qualify for a main being totally out of shape. He just can't finish them. Dudes still fast as hell on a bike, no doubt.

I would think JoJo would have done even better with 30+2.

Out of shape?? I doubt it

Look out of shape?? Maybe

Its all relative isn't it? RC looks like he's been in a good paddock, but i'm sure he's more bike fit than anyone who will post in this thread.

On a good day Robbie Reynard. Dude still flat out hauls ass on a dirty bike, and not what one would consider a moto physique.

I saw Jo Jo ride two classes at Cocoa Beach (Diamondback MX) at the Florida Winter Series with strong finishes in both. Anyone that ever rode Cocoa Beach knows what a feat that was. Strong as an ox.

This is so true. That chubby red-headed Michelin Man looks like he'd stroke-out running to the fridge yet can really haul ass on a bike still.

Most of the nationals JoJo competed in were 30+2. They change from 40+2 in '83.

Whats funny about that is his physique looked the same when he was racing full time. I can tell you from years of first hand experience, that dude trained like a mad man. I mean, if he wasnt on the bike, he was training and eating right constantly. He was in incredible shape, but didnt have that "look". His arm pump could get so bad, that people mistook his fading episodes as him not being in shape.

Thanks. Big fan of the big man on the CR. He rode a production based bike better than anyone not named Broc.

Jo Jo was big but was solid. Built like a tree stump and extremely strong. Dude was a badass on a bike for sure!

I'm pretty sure Jo Jo's last national was Unadilla 1993. If I remember correctly he hadn't ridden at all in something like 2 or 3 years and he might have been the heaviest he'd ever been. I'm also pretty sure he went 8-8 on the day.
This is all based off of memory, but feel free to check the vault.

I used to ride for Cycle Design in the eighties when they had a super powerhouse team here in New England. JoJo, David Rudnicki, Greg Mayo, Wemyss Scott, Alan Wickstrand, Jimmy Meenan and myself made up their riders in the NESC expert classes. The team owner had a thing for a little while where he liked us to come to the shop and run together. JoJo came, but never went out on the runs. He'd hang out with the tuner, Al Doane, cracking jokes and lighting off m80's inside the service bay!
No matter, come Sunday he'd still be the man to beat, and most often no one did. I even remember him smoking a cig on the walk to the starting line in Waterboro one day, and then winning the moto. Was it a psyche out strategy or just being funny? I don't know. But being involved with racing at that time was very cool, and JoJo was a big part of that.

nothing quite like the NESC 100cc class from those years, if you didnt see it for yourself no one would believe JoJo on a 100

Loved watching Jo Jo give it all he had. When he and Hannah got together you better look out. Parked in the back at the MXDN at the Dilla and Jo Jo was there among his peeps, jean shorts and lace up construction boots giving it all he had off the track. Fun times.

Was CD the same owners through the 80s and 90s? I started racing NESC in the mid 90s and that dude and his lady always made me laugh. They had a bird in the shop and he'd always be wearing that white lab coat like a mad scientist.

I doubt there will be another JoJo!

Back in the mid 80s we had a sx at kingsport speedway. Track was shit and was sketchy with lights at ground level poiting in yer face.

Well, some guy pulls in,truck 3 rail ,shirtless with one strap buckled on his overalls.

I thought c class, guys shows up on pro gate and crushed us.

For the main he brings an airtank for his front which was flat again before the gate dropped.

Tommy watts was his name

Did you ever visit Al Zitta's Cycle Dynamics KTM in Feeding Hills, MA in the early eighties? There was a woman in Cycle Design, not sure a woman ever set foot in Cycle Dynamics. Oui, Cheri, Juggs, Penthouse and D Cups centerfolds plastered all over like wallpaper. Al had a porting job he called the "Turbo Hump Port". He built my 84 YZ 80 motors and the experience scarred me for life.

Haha nope. I did buy my first new bike (a 94 yz80) from New England Cycle Center in CT. though, they were nice.
