Not any time soon. Those crates are full of 2strokes and parts, and no TM's are AMA Pro legal.

TM makes less than 2000 units per year globally. TM USA would have to have 400 units of one single model (250f or 450f) to be allowed to homologate them. The only way would be to use the one-time works bike exemption rule.

Even on the amateur level stock TM's are only allowed in the mod classes.

I would like to see it, but like you said; not happening anytime soon. I would like to see more European OEM's getting involved in AMA SX/MX. I could go off on a certain tangent, but...going to leave it alone.

Nice pic. TM's distribution center is a dirt lot? Oh well, I guess you gotta start somewhere.

never happen...........the factory could really give a rat's ass about the US or building/selling enough bikes.............sad as they are really very good but as Jody loves to call them.....a "boutique" manufacturer...........more likely to see one at barrett-jackson than AMA pro starting gate

No production rule in FIM GP´s. They have also cool 4-stroke where air-intake is where gas tank used to be.. goes down back of motor
like Yamaha but motor is still normal way mounted. Gas tank under seat.

SuperMoto they have just ruled World Championship couple years.. and Enduro they are doing ok.. but MX
they seem to have just too small and not enough money to get top riders.

I thought smaller manufacturers only needed 200 .

TMs always remind of me this video: it gets me hot and bothered every single time.

Seems like the AMA should change the rule so instead of a hard number of bikes, it changes to a % of total bikes the company makes. Make it something like 5% of the bikes the company makes must be avail for purchase in the U.S.

Didn't John's son ride for TM a few years back? I can't remember all the details and it may have just been for a local shop or something.

What is the intended purpose of the homologation rule anyway?

To keep the factories from making 1 off bikes....
now...it just keeps out small qty bike builders....

To me, they should lower the number to something a little more manageable by small manufacturers.
200 would be a reasonable number to me.
At least that way, even if the factories decided to build a one-off bike, they would have to be selling 200 of them to the buying public also.

Because then we'd have privateers crying that it's unfair.

and it obviously is making a difference?!??!??!?!?! there are no more "privateers" in the mix...........legitimate, no support, paying your own way, privateers..................if you are not on a sattelite team, who actually in most cases have MORE resources than the factory, you are not competing for the championship...........reality...no cinderrela stories...........so why hold back and hinder potential??!??!?! just another f'd up rule in the sandbox....

I believe that was Husqvarna. Both John and Ryan rode for them for a while. John did back out of that deal though to ride a privateer Kawasaki at Southwick. Because that bike was the turd of all turds.

I agree that this would probably happen, but the beauty of motocross is that performance is 95% down to the rider. Of course good equipment helps, but not as much as in other forms of motorsport. I don't see any reason why you shouldn't be allowed works bikes in the US, at the end of the day you'd still end up in the situation you're in now, the best riders on the best bikes

The podcast that Steve Matthes did with DC not long ago was really good and DC talked about the evolution of Supercross in the 80s when everything changed and why it changed. A big piece of what changed in American motocross and supercross was the production rule obviously and this was something demanded by the manufacturers themselves. They were tired of spending hundreds of thousands of dollars on these works bikes and wanted to end the arms race.
