Those in other countries might not get this, but my cable TV provider supplies me
with a couple hundred channels, about twenty or so being designated "HD"
(high definition) channels. There is, without a doubt, far more motorcycling
programs provided on these few HD channels - than there is on all the other
channels - combined. What's the significance of this high rate of motorcycling
( mostly motorcycle racing) related programming on HD channels ? I'm not sure,
that's why I'm inquiring rhetorically. My guess is - that the spectacular nature of
motorcycling, along with it's brilliant color, translates very well to the magic of
high-definition presentation - thus when the programmers have to fill slots, even
though motorcycle programs don't draw high-ratings - perhaps they assume that
the lavish display of motorcycle-related features in colloboration with
the brilliant clarity that HD provides - will draw in a curious audience to their
channels. There are a couple HD channels that seem to be offering European
Speedway and a continual offering of ISLE OF MAN coverage, both heavily rotated
with commercials prominently crying the excitement of these programs.
I am well aware, after watching some SX last year in HD, that once you have the
privilege of viewing a motorcycle race in HD - it's REAL hard to return to
watching a race on "normal" TV - just as when you first had the pleasure of viewing a
program in color - vice black and white ( for you old-timers)....
If anyone has insight or additional comments regarding this topic, please chip in....
I know, I know, somebody of my extensive motocross/supercross knowledge should know each rider just by the tire pressure they run!
Well, tough lickins, I am old and can't see the races as well with regular tv
I failed to mention - that the "MAV-HD" Channel, at least since I've been paying
attention - has been providing more motorcycle-related programming than
any I've ever seen, ever.
