Does anybody know why Chad Reed has made his Permanent number 22 through out his career?

I think it was just the number he earnt throughout '02. He did some west coast races on the 250 that would have counted and the 125 outdoors.

Stuff looks nice, but a little pricey in my opinion. I would like a t-shirt or two, but not at $30 or $40.

Closest thing he could get to No. 2, Jeremy McGrath, his childhood idol.

After the AMA destroyed the old number ranking system, a better question may be "why not?"

Since the number no longer bears any relationship to points earned, having a number that stays with the rider - Nascar - makes much more sense from a marketing standpoint. Especially in regards to fan-base, replica jerseys, toy bikes, T-shirts, etc.

Not everyone knows the names of a riders significant other. This isn't TMV bro....I had to look up what he meant by "Ellie"....

Maybe he just likes it and thought sticking with 22 instead of switching to a single digit number would be more marketable like Alessi keeping 800.

To be honest if I had to guess that is what I would of thought also. It is weird there is no clear cut answer. Has he never been asked?

I always loved the #22. My daughter was born on the 22nd in 2005. Reed has been my favorite rider since 2002. I was hoping my daughter would like him the best but she has always been an RV fan.

I can't find my National senior championship books. But this one is Chads last junior national championship year. As you can see he was number 2 there.

I should upload the book. All the Australian national riders now were on 50's -80's back in this 1997 book. (I had to race Brett Metcafe thise year.....)

Hey mate, Shoot me a PM with your name and riding number - I grew up racing with Brett too, perhaps we crossed paths Smile

Also, in regards to numbers, your number had to start with the same digit as your postcode when riding a national. For example all NSW rider's numbers had to start with a 2, SA riders a 5 etc....

I no business genius by any stretch, but I wonder why Chad and JS7 would start companies based on their semi-permament numbers ? Because sooner or later they'll want to retire and then "Their Number" will belong to someone else. What if MC started "MC2" clothing line but now #2 is RV ? #2 and #4 are probably associated more with McGrath and Charmichael, but now it's BB and RV ? Lets say someone like say.... Weston Peick takes #7 for his permament # after bubbles retires. Can he start WP7 clothing and gear line ?

Probably why they spelled out their companies instead of just using numbers
