I did a interview with JT$ and I told a friend I think he was the most popular work horse privateer of all time. My buddy argued that no way JT's more popular than Barry Carsten. But my friends from Jersey so he has no credibility at all.

JT's interview is live at LP MX if you guys want to check it out.

A sit down with JT$

Define 'privateer'. Just sayin',,,,
We were arguing about true workhorse privateers.NOT Ivan Tadesco type privateers. We were talking guys that have never had a factory ride ever..

Excuse the typo..

Carsten would have to be in the running...........I mean, how long did he soldier on?

then again, Ryan beating the factories at Daytona, very cool deal.

Huh..? Tedesco has ridden for factory teams since his YOT days, Valli and H&H aren't exactly true privateers, or am I not understanding you?

Jeff Glass - I think the Surf deal at least made him the most visable.

I remember my first Supercross at Dallas when they announced Grayson Goodmans name the crowd went NUTS. He was the local boy who could run with the big dogs. It's a shame his career ended the way it did but his own choices put him there. I still pass by where his old SX track used to be and often wonder "What if..."

I think anyone that has been on a factory team or factory support team shouldn't be counted. Then it would be hard cause so many of the top privateers moved on to support teams or factory teams. It would be pretty safe to say JoJo Keller was the most popular since he never got a factory deal.

JT$ definitely has quite the world-wide name with all the overseas races he does.

Ryan Clark was making quite a name for himself and has marketed himself pretty well over the years.

The guy who I would say is definitely the most notable compared to a lack of accomplishment is definitely Mr. Afterparty, Jamey Grosser! I don't think there has ever been someone who could be known so well for accomplishing so little on the track. Not a slam, more of a compliment. I can definitely say it's an accomplishment to get noticed, no matter how you go about doing it.

Of all time is tough as most who were favorites bounced from privateer to factory or near factory. Top 5 in no specific order:

Wey
Dowd
JT$
Carsten
Kyle Lewis

If Wey and Dowd qualify, then I guess Reed does too.

I have to go with Rick Ryan, unless Reed counts.

I was there when Rick won Daytona, it was unbelievable.
