Dang, still only 8 pages. Two less than the Matthes thread.

Plus there are way more threads about that ddavis guy.

Sad!

DDavis is the proverbial squeaky wheel Steve but this thread has legs, we'll get there.

Subscribed for a year, around 06, I couldn't really justify the $40 with the amount I post so I never renewed. Spent a lot of time lurking though.

Been a member of rec.dirt through MikeeeP, on to Mototalk and now am technically a member of both MT and Vital, but I hardly post at either joint. I prefer to let the personalities do their thing on these boards. Just a FWIW.

Mototalk was where I started getting my video work out there. I remember Shift shooting me an email about a video I did back in 2005 (that I posted on MT) and started doing freelance video work for them in 2006, which got the ball rolling for me in video.

thanx guys, i'm still here.

like a lot of other people, i usually take a lap through here about once a day.
it's fun to see what rumors/facts have been picked up on, what rumors/facts are completely made up...and (the most fun) what rumor/fact hasn't been brought up yet.

the old days of the message boards were completely wide open. it was almost impossible to break the rules because there really weren't any.
it reminds me of what we went through in the transition to "long suspension".
nobody knew WTF they were doing back then either.

hell, even WTF hadn't been invented yet.

I was on MT in the early stages (username Hardkore, Weege still calls me that) and met TFS at Perris Supercross one winter day in Cali. Told him I contributed to CN and RX and started sending him stuff for his site too. I would see him weekly and we became friends along with his sidekick Ray Gundy. TFS loaned me his camera for an afterparty once and he said it never worked the same since. I also jumped on his rental car one day at Budds Creek and slid across the hood dukes of hazzard style and he told me "dude, this aint a rental, it's MY car!"

Haha. I remember that.

RC was ramming my car on the way out of Hangtown too. Dang Toyota looked like a rental.

I called Scott Taylor on the cel, who was in the passenger seat, and I go "Tell RC this is my car!" don! RC grabs Scott's phone and goes "Oh shit! Sorry dude!" I have a pic of RC driving behind me with his head out of the window with an evil grin laughing his ass off.

hhhmmmm...rental cars....

the D3 (daytona drive & dive) was always my favorite.
the winner was determined by who could drive their rent-a-racer the farthest straight into the ocean....and get it back out under it's own power. (the hot set up was a big, heavy ford thunderbird v-8).

the technique for topping the podium: drive it in until it won't go anymore, grab neutral, floor it to keep it running, and if you timed the wave swells correctly, they'd push the car back towards shore far enough to get the rear wheels on the bottom again so you could back it out.

the first year was the roughest (we,,,um....THEY had to learn technique). there were a lot of cars that were.apparently stolen from our hotel parking lot, since some of us still had our car keys...but no evidence of a car.

yep. musta been stolen.
same damn thing happened the next year too.
and the one after....
