I found this article quite interesting; yes it's a roadracing site, but this is certainly moto-related.

Jim's a brilliant businessman, obviously. Think about this for a second: They sold Pro Racing for basically $1,000,000 a year. He bought Pro Racing for $1,000,000 a year. (And) He bought it on the layaway plan. They didn't even have to put any money up front. He subcontracted out the AMA motocross series to the Coombs family. So essentially, I think what you have here is, the Coombs family is basically paying for Jim France to own AMA Pro Racing lock, stock, and barrel. It's brilliant. He's a genius businessman. But it also shows you that the Pickerington bunch, they're not very good negotiators. And Pro Racing was worth way more than $1,000,000 per year. I mean, it's just ... it's just a travesty that they sold it for that. It really is.

I wonder how much Luongo offered up for Pro Racing during the bidding process?

Makes you think why anyone would be a member of the AMA.

I'm glad I had the wisdom over 20 years ago to quit wasting my money.

I race vet classes at Red Bud, Millville, Freestone, Budds Creek, along with Iowa and Illinois tracks and an AMA card is required.
Well worth the cost to race those great venues. Maybe someday the amateur sanctioning body will be called something else, but in the meanwhile....

I love how AMA Pro and the AMA are lumped in to one when people talk out their ass.

To make it even more confusing, this year the AMA is running "AMA Pro Racing" logos on the canopy and 18-wheeler they drive to the races, even though the actual AMA are the ones sanctioning Supercross. They're doing this because apparently they are leasing the truck from AMA Pro Racing (DMG) to base out of for the series. !!!??
