I have an 09 CRF450 that I would like to throw some 5.1 fluid in as I have trouble with my front brake getting really mushy.

I would like to order from Motosport because I am buying the Motion Pro Brake Bleeder as well. I think the choices are Motul, Repsol, and Motorex.

Dot 4! Never had a problem and the stuff is like free. I've heard that 5.1 is harder to work with, never used it tho.

Motul 600 is what I've always used. I boiled a few other bands doing enduros and had great luck with Motul.

Looks like Motul is the choice...5.1 is $9 and the Motul 600 is $19.

I hate to spend $20 for brake fluid...

I don't mind using DOT 4 if you guys have a quality recommendation.

i use shell advance road race 5.1 fluid- used to have loads of problems boiling the brakes using 4. Found the shell 5.1 to be really good- would recommend it! was fairly cheap too

Mushy brake is likely not from the kind of fluid. More likely some air in the line. Front brakes are pretty hard to cook fluid in on a motocross track. Back brakes are pretty easy.

Yes this is true. An old stock brake line can cause mush too.

Do you have an air compressor? If so, this is what you need to tighten those brakes up.

Silkolene Pro Race 2000 is really good stuff too. I have more of a roadrace background and I had great luck with it, even better than the Motul. I agree, sponginess is not the fault of the brake fluid.

Maxima is what I just used a few weeks ago and it seems to do the job.

On that topic, the Dot 5.1 is an ABS brake fluid, and not necessary for MX bikes. The Motul Dot 3/4 would do the job, but the Motul RBF 600 or RBF 660 is the way to go to ensure you don't boil your brakes, especially the rears, which are much more prone. Buy the good stuff and do both at the same time, and then you know it's good !!
