Combination lap timer/data collection/G force tracking unit perhaps? On board Bluetooth connectivity to other devices on the machine. Imagine a SSD drive in your airbox that is recording your GoPro feed or for that matter gets feeds from other wireless GoPro users. Unplug the unit upload it to the cloud and voila!

Saw that a new model of BMW is GoPro compatible provided you are an iPhone user.

What about a magnetic clutch engagement module that was coupled with a rear tire spin sensor to slip the clutch automatically off starts?

Today: Ignition Maps. Fuel Maps. What's next? Variable compression/valve timing/power valve maps? Variable compression/rebound suspension maps? Remote control motorcycles driven by riders sitting all suited up along pit row. Still pulling rider pay. (Think UAVs and remote pilots)

Don't know. I am still pretty impressed bikes don't have points any more. Wink

Lose the cable connect from the throttle to the injector...Unsure
We'll never know, that is until it happens.
Kinda fun to speculate though.

How about a closed loop EFI system?

They are available, but not standard?

Typically (but not always) when you see an exhaust sensor on the head pipe they're a closed loop EFI system. If you you see an bung on the header with nothing attached this bike has been on the dyno and exhaust data was being collected. Other times they will insert a sniffer in the exhaust.

Had a friend that was the jetting king and he always dyno'd the bikes he built with a sniffer in the exhaust.

Im hearing a button next to your grip for on the fly mapping adjustments. Like mid air you can change your mapping for the next section of the track after you land. Not sure of other details. Just heard this from a guy smarter than me.

Electromagnetic or electro-hydraulic valve operation. Camless engine.

Or what if they had a button to start the engine with a starter and battery and everything, INSTEAD of a kick starter?..... Woohoo

I saw this awesome car today that uses alternating magnetic force fields to propel a rotating mass, thus creating propulsion

Awesome technology

A program that would let you download a top rider's moto from a track you're about to ride, and upload it to your bike. It would control throttle and brakes, you'd just need to hang on and handle the steering input.

I like it Steve. Years ago I used to say I just wanted to ride one lap at pro speed to experience what it is actually like. I am the most amazed at how much the pros utilize their suspension in the corners.

So I have to steer, all by myself?

Yes, otherwise people would say you just sit there and the bike does all the work. Wink

I used to think that. Now I watch how fast they're going and I'm increasingly comfortable giving up that dream. The top pros are scary-fast.

What you described with the throttle and braking is exactly what I was talking about when I mentioned the one lap dream because I sure don't possess the talent to go one corner at top pro speed much less one lap. I remember being in the second turn at Red Bud in 97 with my father and just being amazed at how much those guys worked the bikes to get through the first turn without shutting off.

Crazy.

Electromagnetic forks.
This...... it actually seems like a pretty easy thing to do using increasing voltage sensord up tracking fork position and rate of fork slider speed

I believe you on this .... if I bbc.co had to bet that would be the next big direction engines will be headed

It may be electronically controlled, hydraulic or mechanical as with automobiles but I see variable valve timing (VVT) as the next thing along with engine design and setup in the chassis, re YZF and older Husaberg engine design for better intake tract design and weight distribution. If you've ever driven a car with VTEC or the like, you'll understand why. Coming up with a light weight and compact design is the barrier to overcome 1st though. Being electronic would allow the rider or team to adjust the actuation point for power curve preference to a degree also using the tuning device for ECU's out already.

Perhaps there could be some electro-magnetic suspension tech creep in also which could also be adjustable on the fly.

What I can't understand, is how a company now a days, will design something to soley work around an iPhone. Q4 2013 android 78% global market share, iPhone 18%. Seems like you are shooting yourself in the foot going that route.

So Eli's speed and my reaction time? Oh yeah, that wouldn't end well. I wouldn't make the first corner. Wink

Cost.

You are required to develop for multiple "android" devices, where you only need to develop for one IOS.

I've thought about the same thing..I'm not even sure they would have to be electromagnetic. Magnets can increase acceleration and decrease it depending on magnet position and angles relating to one another..

I'd be fine if they all came with a built in transponder in the upper triple clamp.
