Was wondering where the bikes go after they've been in shootouts or modified for magazine and website features like Racer X Tested? I'd assume after shootouts, they go back to the OEM's, but what about the bikes that are featured in mags and online after their modded? For example, does Jay Clark who builds BAD ASS mods for RacerX own the bikes or does RacerX, or the other mag companies, TWMX etc, keep them once he's finished with them? Just curious.

The Shop
but as far as motorcycles, they don't keep them.. unless they buy them
(Swap bought the 2000 or 2001? 500AF after the testing was done back in the day)
In '91 my dad was a Honda UK employee.
The CR80 that was the test bike for DBR magazine, was returned to Honda UK with a burnt out/slipping clutch, Dad bought it (at what I'm sure was an absolute bargin) & put a new clutch in it before my first ever ride on it. I still have the bike, and the magazine with the test of it in.
Press bikes are returned and then sold off.

Media bikes have vins and are registered, so they aren't typically crushed or scrapped. The media departments have a budget and if they aren't able to sell the bike (it has to be scrapped or parted out) then the full retail price of that bike comes out of their budget.
But it looks like I was pretty close to the mark.
