Does anyone know what happened to Mike Alessi in the 2nd moto today. He faded big time. It's hard to imagine he flat out got tired, so I would have to think he had bike trouble. Does anyone have the real story? Please share.

He says he has been sick since the USGP. He rested and did not ride this week, as he was in Florida and his team and bike were in California. He rode yesterday somewhere in Maryland. He seemed to blow what energy he had left in the first moto holding Dungey off. The second moto he faded back.

There might be something to the "overtraining" thing. I remember back when Ryno was riding for KTM on the 125. He stated that he had actually over trained and was too fit and his body would wear out quickly. The body does need a certain level of fat stores for not only engery but water as well. Perhaps this is the problem with the 800.

Looped,

I have no idea what happen in the second moto but here are his overall scores

Hangtown: 4-1
Freestone: 12-5
Hi Point: 7-5
Budds: 2-12

Mike has always done better in his second motos so I agree his fitness is not the question.
He just seems to be so inconsistent. Could it be he tried to make an adjustment to the bike for the second moto and it didn't work? He barely scored the second place finish in moto one because Dungey was right behind him and if Dungey had googles probably would have passed him.

Mike lost his front brake when he had contact with reed on the first lap. So no front brake entire moto.

that's actually good to hear. I was expecting Mike to be in the title mix. He needs to get his ride straight and start battling for wins.

But...these guys all have an uphill battle. Dungey gets stronger and more confident...and more relaxed the bigger the lead.

Fades like a bitch! I was there. He had a great start, then dropped anchor. Don't blame the bike he had a 2nd in the 1st moto. Though Dungy should have had him in the 1st. clearly faster but the lost goggles kept him back. Boy needs some heart, like the tin man.

MA swore off talking to media, doing interviews (other than podium), and other such activities.

Matthes is in a conflict of interest. He is also Mike's goggle guy. Sneaky bastard!

If it is a bike problem, I wonder if Larry Brooks is concerned if the rumors are true of James and team riding the ktm's next year.......

He may have had a damaged front brake, but when Reardon passed him, he didn't look like he had much fight left in him. As soon as Reardon passed him, he looked back to see who else was back there. Overtraining is a real issue - and sometimes it takes complete rest for multiple weeks to set it right. If energy is an issue, I'll bet he's dreading the thin air next week.

Whatever the cause I hope it gets fixed, the more riders running podium speed the better. Makes these races alot more exciting when the top 3-4 guys are together racing. We need Mikey back in form to get in there. The fact is when he is on, he can run with just about anyone outdoors.

"Overtraining is a physical, behavioral and emotional condition that occurs when the volume and intensity of an individual's exercise exceeds their recovery capacity. They cease making progress, and can even begin to lose strength and fitness. Overtraining is a common problem in weight training, but it can also be experienced by runners and other athletes."

Oh No! Mike might miss the next few races 'cause we all know how hard it is to get parts for those KTM's!Tongue

Actually, I heard that the aerodynamic drag from the linkage is slowing him down. Yeah, that's it!

Overtraining IS a real problem. Maybe that is an issue for Mike. Certainly the rotor would be.

that is about enough of that B-u-l-l... We used go faster without the clutch on a 2 stroke, ask Steve Wise, and train to ride the whole track in 1 gear, when the 400f came out in 98'... The factory Teams dealt with it too, as a benefit... In this case, less is more... I will say that if you have never trained that way, it might be a surprise when you have to... However I bet AC knew that it wasn't going to be so bad... Now, having no front brake, is a bird of a different feather...
