I just came across this old picture of me. I started riding in 1973 or 74 on a Honda MR-50 but this is the earliest picture I have of me on a MX'er. A 1978 YZ 80E. I thought this might be a fun topic. What is the absolute earliest picture that you have of yourself riding MX? We used to call this the Bristol track because it was at the very end of Bristol street in Newport Beach CA. Now it's a Fletcher Jones Mercedes Benz dealership. We used to have to ride through the Back Bay Wildlife Reserve to get to it. If you tried that today you would get arrested quicker than a starting gate drops. Back then all I needed was a helmet, jersey and bike and I was good to go! No goggles, gloves or boots needed. I believe those are even corduroy pants ridin high with vans shoes. No injuries at this point so I didn't even know what protective gear was aboutHuh .....ahhh, the age of innocence!

68 or 69 on a 69Z50, actual motocross bike probably 72 on a 71SL70. Need to do some scanning, this is all I have scanned. Note the orange helmet, yeah MXA copied me.

1978 RM100. Somewhere in New England. I didn't have any money except what I earned after school as a dishwasher. The boots (to small) and leather pants (too big) were hand me downs from a buddy. I had a $1. tank top with a lame picture of a dirt rider on it over a sweat jacket. Matching tape for numbers on the bike and helmet. Sparkly blue $15. helmet. I did have new Scott goggles and facemask. I couldn't be happier though.

Do you remember what track that was, the snow fence makes it look like it might be the famed Peperell MA track?

This is about a year later in Lommel

This one is at home. we had a little track back in the days. Safety was not yet a issue ;-)

This is not even my bike, but I honestly don't have any pics of me on my first two bikes ( 1972 Honda CT90 and 1985 XR 100 ). So I dug this sweet pic up of me airing out my buddies 1984 Yamaha IT 250!

Pic was taken around 93? Maybe?

Excellent thread idea , by the way!

Aged somewhere between 5-8 so somewhere between 1983-1986. Riding my first bike at the RAAF base in South Australia, they used to have a motocross track on the base, and while my old man did not work for the airforce directly he worked for a government defense department along side the RAAF base so we had access to the track.

That was my first bike, first helmet, gloves, goggles, body armor an d gum boots!

Sadly, this one of two moto pictures I have of myself. After my divorce 22 years ago, my ex-wife left with all of my photos. Content not to have to communicate with her ever again, I foolishly never asked for them back. I'm sure they were all burned in some kind of closure ritual. Anyway, this one has seen better days as it has some water damage, but I still cherish it. (circa 1979)

I am #58. You may have heard of the 59, some guy called Mickael Pichon. I think he kept on riding for a while.

Very first bike was a Taco44 kit with a motor my Grandpa loaned me, 48 years ago.

1968 @ 16 years old. Hodaka 100.
Not my first bike, but first new bike. I bought it from Troy Lee's Grandfather's shop. I stripped the lights off, painted the entire bike and helmet to match, in a "lime gold" color. Troy's father Larry did that to his CZs and I was impressed.
