So last week I purchased a 2001 yz250f and after further review, I believe this was a bike Chad Reed had ridden. All the components check out and its missing very little. Now if I am correct, what would something like this be worth?

Unfortunately, I don't believe it is an appreciating asset. Pretty niche market for an even more niche interest base.

You should let him ride it in opening ceremonies. It will be worth way more after that.

I don't think you could pay chad and have him ride it.

He hated it. Also he didn't ride one of those till 02, so if it's an 01.......

It's in your possession. You'd have more information than we could shed.

What's the vin and where's all the other cool frame stickers the factories used to slap on them things....

Motorcycle museum would take that right off your hands if it's legit. Won't pay you. But I'm sure you write it off as a tax deduction charitable donation?

We're going to need more pictures than one 20 feet away in the back of a truck.

- are their gussets or tabs added to the frame?
- is there an AMA sticker near the head?
- is there a title with past owners?
- does the carpet match the drapes?

Could the frame read 2001 but still have all the components while being ridden in the 02 season? I mean, its nearly exact ...missing the front brake cover and sub tanks apart from that its dead on

Well pass the word. I'm not 100% on being rid of it, I just want to know as of now.

Rims are Takasgo Excel A60. Not positive on hubs but all titanium hardware.

Biggest thing you need to look at are those forks. They are 46mm kyb kitted works forks along with those clamps. , the subframe is titanium. It looks like at was a legit YOT bike at one time. Not sure what up with the god frame. Can you post some better pics of the forks and clamps. Nice find. They didn't have a 60 wheels then and yot used stock hubs. So there probably is some extra stuff someone has added. Also some pics of the motor. From what I can see it may have some titanium bolts.

You should trade him for your 2002 Honda.

Back in the day I bought 2 race team bikes from YOT, called looking for one in 2001 and they put me through to Phil Alderton who was very friendly and honest. We made a deal for a Fonseca bike, minus the Factory suspension. But it was bad ass for the day, carbon fiber airbox and all kinds of cool shit.

I drove over to pick it up, got there a little before the race shop opened. Eric Kehoe was manager back then, he showed up first to open the shop. He let me come in with him when he opened up, I will never forget when he flicked on the shop lights and there was at least 20 YOT bikes in a row (the new 2002 models) as well as about 6-8 race bikes floating around. More parts and goodies than I had seen in any shop. It was amazing.

The next year, I called Phil again and we made a deal for a #103 Reed bike (similar but not the same as the subject pic). But because they were so fair with me the year before, I just gave him a cc and told him to ship it to AZ. So no shop visit that year, but the crate did come loaded with some extra parts and accessories thrown in that I was not expecting. YOT was a class act to me.

There was one parted out a while back all the carbon pieces were on ebay super cheap. Qll the engine covers, mounts, and airbox were on there. Still might be to this day.

Honestly, I personally feel its something. Whether or not it was Reed's bike, it was a troy racing original and first year of four stroke 250. There is something there. It was the bike that changed the face of the sport.

Look, I didn't say it was the first 250f literally but its certainly a staple and probably more so than the 426 IMO. Everything followed bringing us what we have today. Its a piece of history and quite possibly it would be that alone but don't knock it just for the sake of some forum hater.

Saw that one on the Rochester Craigslist. First thing I noticed were the forks. Guess I should have went and looked at it.

Did you ask the owner where they got it from?

There's a new lightspeed cf ignition cover on EBay for about 50 bucks that would go well with the bike.
