If the rules were lifted and the 450 class became an open class that allowed full on works bikes with no restrictions on development... what would it actually look like?

Monster Cup is not a good reference IMO because nobody will build a one off bike for a 1 night event. But if there was an entire series, what things do you think we'd see?

It would suck ass because few can even ride 450s now to their full potential, and not many could afford the costs. That is why normally one dude just leaves the rest in the dust. Everyone else is surviving, not racing.

They need to go back to 125 and 250 classes whatever stroke. or 250/350 whatever stroke.

There would be a few trick 500 smokers I'm sure. If its a long start straight you gotta think the five hundy would be appealing for a great starting position. The rest of the race maybe not so much!

Nope. Easier to get a start on a 450 IMO....and a hell of a lot easier to go fast for 35 minutes too

The term open class had nothing to do with one off, parts prototype, carbon fiber, etc... It was all about cc. Meaning there was a 125, 250, and open class. Open class was a believe for anything over 275cc's and above.

I raced the open class in the late 70s and early 80's with a Yamaha 465, and a Maico 490.

And open class now would be anything over 475 cc's I imagine. It sounds like the most are pros are D-tuning the 450s...

The one or 2 major things I could see right now would be ALTA being able to run an electric bike immediately and also bikes like TM, Gas Gas, etc. being legal.

I'd really like to think that KTM, Honda, and the others would build sweet, unobtanium, one off works works bikes like they did back in the day... a Mugen Honda again?? Yes please!! But I doubt there would really be all that much difference besides some additional weight reduction, fuel changes, and maybe an extra electronic goodie or 2. I don't even think we'd see the fabled traction control.

Yep adjustable suspension, one of the guys that design the Ohlins shocks lives down the road from me, and he told me years ago they had a shock with GPS tracking in the making.
It would basically change setting of the track goes from hard to soft or whatever, so you program the computer by walking the track and insert pinpoints for the shock to pick up and change the setting.

Been a few years, and i guess because its not legal they dont have a top priority on getting it done.

Where have I seen that style of typing before?

Probably just like the GP's in MX1.

Exactly. MXGP already allows full-on works prototypes. It's hard to explain why the factories would build works bikes nowadays, the way they did in the old days, and, in fact, they don't.

They need to go back to 125 and 250 classes whatever stroke. or 250/350 whatever stroke.

Open means ride whatever you want, including your suggestions. Bring it. See you at the finish line.

The costs would just transfer from building 250's 4t's until they blow to chassis and drivetrain. It will likely take auto transmissions to keep internal combustion engines competitive against electrics. To do so you would need even more HP and since the hot ticket is torque, 4t 480/520 range would become desired, possibly big 2t's.

I think a better name for it would be Unlimited. Open just doesn't translate well to neophites.
