What's that thing wrapping around the engine?

Here is a zoomed in crop, blurry as all hell, but might help.

I wonder if it's some sort of alternate air intake thing? Very intriguing

I was gonna say dirt bike but looking at the zoomed in picture must be a powerband.

It doesn't tornado out the back anymore I really can't wait to see what they do with the Yamaha's in 2014.

Four years after its redo, the YZ450F is still a head turner.

Well, dont forget the talk of an all new 2013.5 that is rumored to be ready for the outdoors.

Another of Yamaha's bizarre attempts at balancing and centralizing mass?

Makes sense though. Having all of the exhaust weight at the rear of the bike seems like a silly idea, especially with the engine head already leaned in that direction

I'm no engine guru, but wouldn't completely wrapping an engine with an exhaust pipe that close create an enormous amount of heat?

shrouds are still butt ugly. (:

The Honda design passes close to the cylinder on one side. The Yamaha design is within 1" of the cylinder on 3 sides. I'm curious how that would hold up doing 30+2 at Freestone.
