Makes sense though. Having all of the exhaust weight at the rear of the bike seems like a silly idea, especially with the engine head already leaned in that direction

I'm no engine guru, but wouldn't completely wrapping an engine with an exhaust pipe that close create an enormous amount of heat?

The Honda design passes close to the cylinder on one side. The Yamaha design is within 1" of the cylinder on 3 sides.
