What have you made

One thing moto has is creative people what interests me is things people have turned into reality.
What have you made for your moto benefit e.g a stand or trailer or tools etc

I made a bike carrier for the trailer hitch to use on the back of my pickup truck. It incorporates a Bike Shoe to hold the bike, so no straps. I also built in a stabilizer for the unit so the carrier and the bike are rock solid during transport, unlike any other unit out there. Total cost was under $100 including the Bike Shoe.

would you mind posting some pics of the carrier? I'm gonna build one too and would like to see some other ideas/designs, too. Thank you

my buddies and i all made pit bikes before the pit bike craze, i built this in 93, the forks are cut down DS 80, the front wheel is from a yamaha chappy, shocks are progressive suspension, for a 78 cr125,tripple clamps and swingarm , were designed by me and built by my buddy when he was in engeneering school, i made the seat, and i figured out that a honda atc 110 intake manifold, with a xr80 carb would fit the head, with a little port matching, and then i discovered powroll, i had a suertrapp down pipe that i made and i welded a pro circuit tag to it, wish i had a pik of that still

in this pik i think it has a takagawa ingnition and intake manifold on it cuz i did it over a couple years ago to ride some super moto, it was no match for the full on 110 in the background

I always wanted to make a multi purpose hitch plug in that served as a bench to sit on as well as a bike ramp. And attach an umpbrella or some sort of awning and you'll have it made in the shade.

A few years ago when I worked in a shop, I ran a laser cutting machine and made a bunch of disc rotors and a few skid plates.

Started with a bare frame, airbox, worn out lower end of an engine and a set of hubs. Scrounged up parts, traded some of my skills for others and begged a few favors. Turned out pretty sweet.Wink

Newmann always blow me away with his vintage bikes. Most of the bikes are all before I was born so when he posts pics/stories of his builds it's like getting to step back in time and experience a side of moto that I would not be able to any other way. Thanks newmann

I'm not much of a fabricator but my Father is pretty good. He has made titanium overflow tanks for race teams, aluminum gas tanks, stands, axles, even an enclosed travel trailer he scribbled down on a piece of cardboard.

My problem is that I want to build and fabricate all kinds of stuff but I do not know how to operate a lathe or milling machine and do not know how to tig weld. Over the past few years I have bought a small 3 in 1 Smithy machine and a really nice watercooled tig for the shop at home. Finally have gotten around to getting the shop close to being finished where I can finally start setting things up for use and then the learning process can begin. Pretty much anything I fabricate now has to be done with basic body shop tools and it kind of sucks. Burnt up a lot of favors over the years and painted a lot of dirt bike parts in exchange for machine work and welding jobs.Woohoo

Instead of spending $100+ on a fancy aluminum stand, I made something very simple that works great!

Get's me a lot of funny looks and comments at the races Laughing

I've made a bike stand, engine plugs, oil filter covers, carb and throttle body parts, suspension parts, clutch parts, and designed pistons, cylinders, triple clamps, oil coolers, suspension parts, engine covers, bike racks... it's what I do.

As far as the pure making part, TyDog's work on that head from a solid block is pretty epic, along with some of the other goodies he favored people with over the years.

Your paint work is pretty awesome as well, Joe. Great craftsmanship all around.

I made a down pipe and a stand for a 76 YZ80C in Metal shop, many, many years ago.
I measured the segments of the pipe in a picture in a dirt bike magazine, then calculated the diameter at each seam, and copied it.
For a silencer I used a stinger off of a Volkswagen Beetle, which I saw others using on their Mod YZ80s at Barona Oaks Raceway.

After seeing a couple of others I'm embarrassed to show it, but I made a fender mount for conversion to '13 plastic on KTM instead of buying the Nihlio mount

Made a cool 4 wheeler stand. It has a boat trailer wench I used to crank the 4 wheeler to the top. I put 2x6's as tracks to pull it up. Free up all kinds of room in my garage.

Carbon-Fiber Upper-motor-mounts for a friend's Honda-Team. You'll get to see'em at the X-Games on the #10 Honda.

Thank's for posting that. Now I know what I need to do. Girlfriends 4 wheeler on bottom and my mini and vintage bike on top!

next time i go i'll post some pictures. it's basically a plastic box-crate zip-tied to my handlebars and front fender, the cooler fits into it.

also works to hold a chain-saw, lime, and a small shovel.

Haven't you also made a whore into a housewife? Probably the most impressive thing I've ever seen.
