Iss this normal for a new bike? Maybe just grease from the factory?

So what is the final verdict on TPS setting? Some say do not mess with it because of the auto learn function... I had a slight decel pop with and without akra insert and decided to bump TPS a little higher...but I do not see any improvement... With the idle closed completely i have now 0,45v (stock is 0,40 volts)...which is around 0,55 volts at my idle (do not know the rpm...but probably lower than recommended 2200 rpm). The bike starts at second or third turn of the starter...but does have a bog (sometimes even dies) if I twist the thorttle open very fast and far...

My 16 FE450 was at .55 stock and it started ok but definitely had a stumble when whacking the throttle from an idle. I fiddled with the TPS setting as I did with my 15 FE450 and settled on .63/64 for both of them. They both started with basically just a tap of the button and the stumble was gone on both bikes and they both definitely revved quicker and were definitely more responsive on the track.

At what rpm did you measure 0.63 volts?

Has anyone heard the MSRP for the 17 FE's? I talked with my dealership today and he couldn't tell me anything except that my bike would hopefully be here in February sometime, maybe even March.

I've got the 16 450FE that just hit 20 hours, I'm super strict with my maintenance and never had a single engine issue after riding honda's the past 10 years.

All ready had to put new clutch plates and fibres in at 18 hours, then this weekend I got about 3 laps in and got a really bad tick that I thought was a loose cam chain. Packed it up and went home.

Turns out the intake rocker/cam lobe have really bad wear, leads me to think it is a manufacturing default as the rest of the head isn't showing any wear.
Anyone ever had issues? I know there was a recall of the 13 due to the coating on the intake rocker and this really seems what has happened.

such a bummer because this is by far the best bike I have ever ridden.

A buddy of mine has a 17 SXF 450 (non FE) that he picked up about 5 weeks ago and he is complaining about the vibration compared to his KX 450. He does not have a skid plate and was running the Twisted Engineering bars and was still complaining of the vibrations. Does anyone have a decent solution for this? Thanks in advance for any input.

KTM ended up covering the repair, new cam and rockers.
Bummed it was a defect but happy they are taking blame and covering what would have cost me around $1200.

Can't imagine getting that support with other brands

Just turned 60.0 hrs on my FE 450 , runs great, always maintained with fresh filters & oil. Going to have top end rebuilt. Has anyone rebuilt theirs yet? What piston did you use? Looks like Ktm sells a piston kit, but microfishe states not shipping? I have not visited my dealer yet to order parts.... Assuming minimum for rebuild would be piston kit, valve springs & timing chain & all related gaskets....anything else I"m overlooking.....Ktm specific? I was longtime Honda guy before this bike....other than a remap, motor is completely stock. Sr.A MX rider. Thanks for input.

At 60 hours I would only put a piston kit in it along with gaskets. Unless you have sucked some dirt you may find the old piston still in spec. Most run them much longer than this before a rebuild, but it never hurts to have peace of mind.

buy a vertex piston , its the same as oem and much cheaper than getting it threw ktm, i use stock gaskets , you dont need to change anything else , i do timming chains on jap bikes but those orange and white bikes are fine

Thanks guys, bike has never sucked sand, filter setup on these bikes are a blessing after changing crf filters for 10 years! Thanks for that info Pete24, racing it at southwick makes me feel like I should put a new top end in it...

My mechanic did my top end last week at around 65 hrs....Everything look good, stock piston still had the coating on the sides, intake vales were a little loose, mechanic said I could have gone 100 hrs no problem...better safe than sorry...time for rear brake pads, Oem"s lasted long time, Has anyone tried the updated 17 rear pads, supposedly little less aggressive....
