Was up at the track this weekend and the new split lane S-turn is looking pretty sweet.. I think it'll work out but only time will tell. My buddy Luke built it and also built the one at Hangtown that seemed to work pretty good.

As long as you cant change lanes halfway through its a cool thing to have on the track. I remember one year they had a S lane and told everyone if you change lanes once you commit you will be docked for cutting the track, I don't know if there is a specific rule to cover it.

They needed to do something in that section. I hope this works, it could be a great area for passing.

There will be a line crossing from inside to inside after 2nd practice

They had something similar at Milville and it formed a rut going outside to inside during the 2nd 450 practice, then they put the yellow stakes down the middle for the 250 practice so you couldn't cut across. I'm pretty sure they will do the same for Washougal.

Not sure I'm a fan of these narrow one lined sections that typically there is one line that is faster than the other so they end up racing through the 6ft section single file.

I guess our track builders had to do something to compete with the GP's wave section that they put in every track....Whistling

That is the fast way for sure but defeats the purpose of the two lanes. They have had them before and you would be docked if you cut through so as DonM said they will put yellow stakes there and I am sure they will warn the riders about jumping lanes.

What up Cran-Dog!!!?? haha!

Hey man.....that new section is looking good. Nothing wrong with trying some new things on a track. Hopefully it makes for some good racing.

My money is on the outside to inside combination being the fastest (assuming they can't cross lanes).

Any takers?

Outside to inside will definitely have them braking a little later which will be faster initially. I think the fast line will change race by race. If one lane becomes faster, it will get used more and the bottom of the ski-jump will get the gnarly braking bumps which will cause riders to switch to the less used side.

guess it will also depend on the traction coming out of the inside out line

been lots of guys passing around the outside around the outside around the outside, 2 buffalo girls .......

sorry malcom mac in my head,

Yeah but with a drop-off about 20 yrds out of the turn it won't make much of a difference. I don't know, I like trying to guess where the fast lines will develop ahead of time - makes watching practice more interesting.

Probably won't be easy to pass lappers here.

5 imaginary bucks says that a good battle will be negatively affected by this section.

Is cool but they'll need to build it up more or they'll cross over it like St Louis 09 and the top of the hill after the crazy off camber at Budds Creek this year. That edge and lip needs to be steep and tall or they'll just cross over.

In the past, the S-turn has worked out well for passing. Cool to see it enlarged a bit, though.

I'm looking forward to riding it here in a few weeks after the national. I'll be testing out both lanes if they leave it that way ( which I hope they do! )

Why not go out for amateur day Jeffro? I know it is chaotic, just wondering.

IMO it doesn't look a whole lot differrent than it would after a 30 minute moto. Inevitably there is always two distinct lines with large ruts through those corners (which I always hated because my speed there sucked). It is kind of the same, only bigger. The problem they have now is that someone will have to sit there and police it all day to make sure someone isn't crossing lanes and then deal with the aftermath if they do.

Looks cool though! Maybe if it was this way back in the day, I would have been a little faster Smile

Haha what Huber!?! I'm hoping it does too! Come find me when you're up there, I'll be watering the infield section (downhill to the triple) as long as this rain stops...

I really don't think they're going to be able to cut, it's got a pretty good wall to it right now where you would want to try and cut it. Also that's what amateur days are for, if we see those guys trying to cut it then we'll just make the wall bigger! As far as the fast line... it's a tough call I think. Ryan Huffman had a hard time picking a fast line so that says something. My pick is the outside to inside but the inside coming out is pretty tight so you might be able to carry your speed better on the outside line coming out...

I thought it added something positive and new to the track. They did find a way to cut right through the SOB though during the 250 and 450 practices. For the races though ,they installed a yellow blockade that prevented guys from doing that though.

They're like puppy dogs that won't stop digging until they find a way through. Ha. No matter what you do to deter them, they're still going to try.

I liked the split lane. The 250s seemed to be taking the side that was on the outside on the exit and the 450s seemed to favor the inside slightly.

When there are two guys going through, it's like a drag race through the cornering so that one person doesn't gain position on the other. Dungey's pass on Brayton? was pretty sweet there.
