We look at what went wrong for Villopoto, ask if Nagl can continue his form and wonder what Rattray was thinking with his post race quote, here:

it's blasphemy i tell ya'
I went back to 2011 which is only 2 outdoor seasons due to injury. In those 2 seasons he has one 5th place AND EVERY OTHER SINGLE RACE WAS A PODIUM!
Edit: Just checked AC has actually been off the podium 4 times in the last 2 years.
Rv was pretty conservative getting out of the 450 SX gate.
I just hope we're not seeing a guy who didn't really want to race this year and is because of what he was offered or what he would have lost. Not the most motivating mix, even if he is one of the fiercest competitors ever.
Whats more he should really have 68 podiums, but he suffered that mechanical DNF while running 2nd at Redbud in 2012.
It will be interesting too see if it was an oddball result on an oddball track or if RV will continue to struggle.
I think he will figure it out quickly though. Thailand seems softer ground and it will be warm...it should suit him and he will go all out to win.
One of the MX rag did mention a while back that if RV just retired in 2014 he had to give his sponsors (Kawi, Monster, both?) a big chunk of cash back. And going to race in Europe was one way to fulfill his contract without the pressure of racing in the US.
I guess we'll find out... or not. Maybe he'll have a season like CP in 2014: Some flash of brilliance, some podiums, an overall or 2. Maybe that's all you can expect after multiple injuries and not racing for more than a year...
