... or did I see a midget mechanic in the Phoenix broadcast? I swear I saw a little nugget in a team shirt walking someone's bike while the camera crew was following Roczen off the track (after his sand digger)...

No that's not how he does it. He actually gets on the bike and does a stoppie next to the stand and the back end swings around and drops right on the stand. Something like this:
