"Team Moto-Baja-Speedway Old Guys"
24 hours of racing is INSANE...& very rewarding.
I was the team member that, somehow, ended up with 2 Night Segments! Which was actually pretty damn cool. Night riding REALLY makes you focus on your riding & lines.
Brian Sweaney was a "long-run" bad ass & Ray Sommo rocked a solid night run on his 1st ever "Off-Road" race.
Sommo & Sweaney are STUPID-FAST!
Johnny Campbell has won 11 Baja 1000s, I mean...really...what-else can I say?
He pitted EVERY lap during his 1st session & made suspension adjustments that turned our bike into a Lazy-Boy-Trophy-Truck "Plushmobil". It was sooooo nice in the kickers and downhills. I'll be using Johnny's assistance with my Moto-set-ups! Johnny is one of the most Generous people I have ever had the privilege or calling "my friend".
Bruce Ogilvie must be smiling, he made Johnny into much more than just a Champion.
Brad Oxley: do you know ANYTHING about Speedway racing? If you do...you know who Brad is. To me, he's the guy that raised 2 very fine young men & gave them a coupl'a dirt bikes & some "mad-skills": Colton & Ian Udall, Brad's step-sons. Brad was the oldest guy on the team...let's jus' say he EASILY qualifies for "O-50"...
He's a bad-ass on ANY Kind of Dirt Bike.
JCR won Everything they entered or assisted:
2 CRF150s, one Big & one Small wheel. Kinda argues that they ARE tough lil bikes!
The Iron Man "Brian Adams" CRF-R by day, CRF-X by nite.
The Open-Pro 1X (Colton, Kamo, Weigand, Dudek)
And us Old-Guys.
The CRF450X is the best dirt bike for the masses. My bike, our "Race Bike" was an '05 w/ a combo of '05-'07 CRF-R/X motor pc's to build a JCR-esque motor. The chassis is 8 years old!
To be fair: our competition was KX500 mounted & they ran VERY well, as did their mount.
The 2-stroke is alive & well at the 24 hour, heck, I even brought Surrat's kid in w/my light when his quit going Down Mt. Glen Helen! He was on a CR125...w/ A DEAD LIGHT!
"Hey! Let's go, just stay right beside or just in-front of me!"
Surrat: "Really? Cool!" & we did about 3/4 mile of nutty corkscrew & bridge type obstacles back to the pits.
Also, I got to pick one of the little guys on the small 150 up on the side of a nasty rutty rocky down hill.
Funny, now that I'm older...
Helpin' other riders, especially the kids, is as rewarding as racing can get.
I love our sport.
Thanks to my "Team": The JCR Crew, American Honda (& Hida from Honda-Japan!) Fly Gear, Dragon Goggles, VP racing Fuel, Dunlop, UFO Plastic!, Pro-Circuit, Renthal, HammerHead Shifters, A'ME grips, Hammer Nutrition.
And...
Magoo for my 1st insperation at Fremont Raceway, "Ignore EVERYTHING you're thinking & just grab 4th & go for it! Don't waste a Hole-Shot, ever!"
OX, "Wow, what got into you? That was 27 miles of whoops! Do you have any idea what you just did? We're going to be here for a while, you know that, right? You 'old-giys' don't rail 27 miles like that. Well, not 'til now. Where did that come from? You are soooooo DA, now! You might wanna take a nap!" The day I realized I AM a Baja kinda Guy.
Danny Hamel: for that style...

Congrats on the finish. I still have some nasty images burned in of Breker's hands in 02 and one of the Jones kids hands from 04. 24 hours makes for a long day.
I really, really focused on my grip & holding the bike w/ my legs...long technical sections & downhills, Moto sections, long fast uphills...
You HAVE to ride w/ your whole body...
I figured this out REAL quick on my 1st Rip w/ OX.

Just awesome, congrats!!! It doesn't get any more gnarly than a 24 hour dirt scooter race.
I have an '07 CRF450X and love it, so I know what you speak of. It seems that the JCR guys have this enduro thing dialed.

Sweaney had to pull over and take a power-nap on his way back to Bako (Bakersfield, home of the Baddest Ass dirt-bikers I've EVER riden with!)...
2 hour drive and he had to take a nap...this race kicked our asses that hard!
I'm still just simply amazed at how...well...Satisfying this Team & this Race are...just to participate "In" or "With"...
For those of you that do track days & think your racing days are over? Go try a Hare Scrambles, Enduro, Hare & Hound...G.P. ...
The Bang for the Buck is unbelievable...& the comraderie is simply awesome!

Now everybody around here knows why you were so quiet over the weekend- if you weren't racing, you were sleeping!
In fact, I had to fill-in 'ol Team Green on the Steel City results! For once I was more in-the-loop than Manny!
Ok, let's see if any of my photos turned out.
