Van Winkle is a cool guy and has had a great career in music and entertainment. But as somebody that rode and raced in 1985 with him. I have to call BS on what he says sometimes about racing. The video shows his 3rd place plaque from the Texas series in 1985. Mc Grath did not ride a 125 until I believe 1987 and did win a title in the C class at Loretta's. Sometimes I think he tries to hard to fit in with the racing career. He used to rock the club on the dance floor and performing at a Dallas club at the age of 16.

i raced against rob van winkle at ponca i think in 87' if i remember right...I could be off by year or so but i'm getting old and i bounced my head off the ground many times since then. During the early 90's some of the crew i hung around spent time riding at his house in south florida while he was still a big deal...and before his career imploded.

He is smart too,He made a killing on ice ice baby and invested and also had extreme sports shops in Texas and Florida so he is pretty well set. I remember he caught a lot of flack for his bio but seems like a good guy ,met him at a few Jet Ski races but the only thing I remember about him racing was a couple kids laughing at his name on the result sheet in Ponca ,they were calling him Rip Van Winkle .

The dude has been able to keep himself relevant and continue making money entertaining. Hats off to him because that's extremely hard. Its also nice he still keeps in touch with his roots, bike riding.

As for his speed, Im sure he was quick. hell the older I get the faster I was when I was younger. Wink
