Almost a year back someone came to me, a 6D factory rider in Europe, and said this is no hype this is real safety. I said yeah you can say what you want you get money in the bank from it. Then he asked me to follow him and he brought me to a person (dunno who) and he start talking about the technology and how some NFL helmet factories where already using the same idea because of the fact it is the 'real deal'. Now after the Berlin attack I was watching CNN and I saw this.

Thanks for posting the links. Very interesting. I think we are in an evolution phase for helmets. It will be exciting to see what gets developed in the next 5 to 10 years.

I like how they use the phrase "omni-directional impact protection". I wonder where they came up with that?

With the asinine amount of money in primetime professional sports right now I don't understand why they aren't using a more consumable version of a helmet and replaced every fresh set of downs or x amount of plays. The challenge of the football helmet is the infinite number of impacts it has to absorb but if they didn't have that requirement it seems like even current motorsport helmet technology would be a huge improvement.

The VICIS helmet was tried by both the U of Washington and the U of Oregon early in their training camps this season and both schools returned them. I posted the photos several weeks ago in a thread that talked about the newer helmet design with the front flex plate.

The VICIS has potential, but it simply didn't fit the human head the way players felt comfortable with. I'm sure that they're working hard to try to adapt their design for next season.

The tech used in pro ranks needs to be cost effective for high schools and universities.

I still prefer a heavier helmet pre-2000.

It seems now people bump their head its hospital time. I've seen helmets destroyed, not even a headache.

I don't know about all this lightweight crap.

Agreed!

Make the helmet a little bigger and give some more area for impact inside

Airoh is probably the best example that light weighted helmets are equal on 'hospital time'. Havy Arai helmest are preventing 'hospital time'.

Yeah I agree you should be wearing a heavy (hardened) big foam helmet that is 15 years old!

You guys should just wear an old leather football helmet I bet that's better than anything that has been tested and tested and tested... but you're right your idea is better BlinkBlink

He also probably thinks automobiles from the 70's are safer than current automobiles.

I debate helmets everyday with customers and co-workers, if you have a high energy absorbing helmet, it has to be replaced every hit. They last longer when less protecting, how do we find a happy medium?
