On the way from Hangtown to Thunder Valley, Jimmy and Gregg Albertson were driving their sprinter van through, and the turbo blew. Unfortunately, the engine ingested some of the turbo pieces, and they're looking at a repair bill in the region of $10K.

fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu!

That sucks. Those sprinters aren't cheap when they go either. A buddy had one that liked to spit the harmonic balancer off - and when it did, right around 100K miles, took the crank and the entire bottom end with it.

Yeah. This is likely to put a crimp in his summer plans. When I ran into him this afternoon, he was trying to figure out what to do.

I bet Ronnie Mac has a trailer he can borrow. Might have to disconnect the plumbing, AstroTurf covered deck and tin roof awning before it's ready to roll, though. And try not to run over the pink flamingos when you are pulling out of the trailer park

That sucks, I seem to remember from the motosport videos showing he had just bought it during the supercross series.

$10k sounds way steep, but with those German vans who knows. A solid box truck can be had for half that.

Gotcha. Makes more sense as one comment instead of 3 different ones.

You just gotta want it bad enough. Darrel Schultz on his way to Unadilla when he lost his factory support. Pretty sure he won.

Better yet.. rent a sprinter van, get the insurance and perform an overnight engine swap... then call the rental place the next day and inform them the rental blew

You can get a rebuilt Sprinter Mercedes engine with a warranty for about $10k (after the core trade) so he needs to shop around. Install is not free, but it would be a rebuilt warranty motor not just a turbo fix.

Won't help him get to Colorado, but $10k for a blown turbo is bullshit. Sounds like a dealer charging dealer warranty prices.

FedEx runs thousands of Sprinters Nationwide so there are plenty of rebuilds out there. A rear ended 2012 just sold at the Phoenix area Copart for $12,000 for the whole van (hit hard in the ass, but motor and tranny plus most everything else was in good shape). But a turbo is no reason to swap motors unless a grenade went off, just not worth $10k.

Bummer for Albee, hard enough to race on a privateer budget then your ride takes a shit...
