Not back with Geico? Seems weird. Wasn't given much of a chance and did well in the few races he did with them.

This is true but there are so many good amateurs every year that come up and only so many rides. Plus guys stay in the class forever.

Wow that's shocking, I would of thought Geico would give the kid another shot. I thought he did well for a rookie and coming in pretty much unknown to most I would think.

If there is an injury, I would expect Tristan will be first in line as fill in. They also could still decide to field a 5th rider.

It does seem odd this team would give up so easily on the kid. I'm assuming Decotis still has the 5th spot ?

How many years did he run under their amateur program? Surprising that they only give a kid one season after all that time and effort invested, and when they normally give guys a few seasons to come around. I hope he lands somewhere, as well as Alexander Frye.

He had a "verbal deal" but i never knew how they would have 7 riders for this year (before Smith went to TLD) so this really doesn't surprise me much

It might be some personal differences between him and the team

He impresses me more in his half season than Hampshire has in two . Plus , how jimmy d has a ride over him is mind blowing.

Tristans getting the short end of the stick on this one, but maybe they had some sort of requirments to get a full time spot. Maybe it was either race the full outdoor season or keep racing amateurs and only get 3 shots at a contract for 2017. Hopefully he gets a ride or continues with geico. As for jimmy d, this will probably be his last shot with them unless he gets on the podium in quite a few races.

Decotis is SX only deal in 2017 like it was this year. So hopefully Tristan can keep a ride as a fill-in for SX then full time in outdoor!

This is the brutal part of the sport. Young kid barely has had a chance and gets left in the cold looking for a ride.

Perhaps he will be a podium contender if he could live in the 250cc class for a decade like Davalos. He started in 2006. Being able to stay in the 250cc class for 10 years is quite impressive. And I'm not being sarcastic. That's not easy to do.

10 years in the 250 class is ridiculous. No way kids can get rides when guys 25-28 years old are still riding this class.

He actually had multiple years with them in the amateur ranks and from my understanding his contract had actually run out before his pro debut, so he was on a verbal deal to give him a shot. They extended beyond their original deal to give him that chance.

Maybe implement an under 23 rule for the small bike class?

This could catch on...

What a bummer. Kid got some real talent. He could be a top 5 Guy if he stayed healthy this summer, and now no ride.. Hopefully someone good pick this kid up.

So looks like still with Geico or what, never did see anything to proof he was no longer there. Just the OP saying it for whatever reason.

It's was on Racer X website for silly season that he would not be back with the team.
