I've been watching the indoor X Trials(basically trials Supercross). Tony Bou is MC circa 1995.

Talented doesn't even begin to describe how good these guys are, I seriously can't even wrap my head around doing the things they can do. I mess around on a trials bike occasionally and just sitting there trying to balance while not moving is seriously hard for me!Laughing

We were lucky enough to go to the desert with the Aaron's. His skills on any bike are insane. We were waiting up on a plateau for the rest of the group to get up and he got bored. So, he starts doing 180 nose wheelies on this sketchy off camber area loose shitty area. He make the sections look so easy that you just feel stupid.

The top level trials guys are the most underrated motorcycle riders on the planet. If you can make it to a National, its worth it to go watch the US pros. The crazy part is the world championship riders are on another level (maybe several levels, in some cases). World Trials Championship will be returning to the US later this year with a stop in Rhode Island.

It's a different skillset for sure, but imho trials riders have the most impressive from of bike control that I've ever seen.

I own and ride a trials bike regularly - I'm ashamed of what I can do on it compared to these guys. Hell, compared to some 12yr old's I've seen at Trials. Crazy good. Tony Bou is just next level.

The bike control that trials teaches you works at any speed. One of the top trials riders in Canada is also a multi-time Canadian Superbike champion. The things he can do on a bike at any speed are amazing.

Coming from trials myself ( rode school boy british champs and one season of adult British champs ) I think it has really help with my general bike control. If you take any half decent trials rider and put him on any bike they can ride it to a reasonable standard !

Toni bou is in a league of his own and some of the stuff he is doing is getting ridiculous I don't know how much more advanced trials can get.

And yes trials doesn't get half the recognition it should so it's good to see it on here Smile

Hahahaha hahaha. Haha. (That's what they would say if they saw what I consider technical terrain). I have so much admiration for those guys and really wish I could do that. In my opinion what they do is way way harder than jumping a triple or any big jump.

I hope to get to see the worlds here in RI this summer. It is one town over from me and if you know how small RI is that's like in my back yard. I've never tried it and it's the one place in RI where you can legally ride a dirt bike. As long as it's a trials bike. And here world caliber riders are coming so that tells you about the terrain. Just adjacent to the trials area is a defunct ski area where ri held it's only mx national. I was there in 78 but unfortunately bad weather forecast and low turnout. And the weather forecast was wrong it was a great day.

I went to the nuclear Cowboys last year and the best part of the show was the two trials riders. And it blew me away when one did a flip.

That sand wheelie donut at 0:43 was something of beauty.

I've always thought it would be fun to pickup a bike for some after work backyard riding when you can't get to the track/trails. And I know how lame I would look falling off little stuff at 1mph while my neighbors watch.

Ive been to a world event and I was awe struck at what those guys can do. So cool to be right next to them as they clear a section.
I can barely get on my bike while its on the stand without looping out!

After watching that I may get a trial bike to play with. What brands are still selling them?

I would definately recommend it, it's a lot of fun and they are very quite, so riding in backyards or within the neighborhood is not out of the question depending on how cool you neighbors are. We bought a new gas gas a few years ago for pretty cheap, what they're did was essentially take a bunch of leftover parts from comparable years and build a full bike out of them, then sell it at a reduced price. For example, it may be a 2010 frame, but have 2011 forks, etc. if you want to go new maybe look into something like that, or go the used route and browse craigslist. The nice thing is it takes very little upkeep, just change filters, change the oil, mix your gas at 80:1 and you're set! We have about 30 hours on ours and it's been great to us, I can definately tell a difference in my riding style after spending some time on it.

I don't mind being the counterpoint here, purely for entertainment purposes. I have cousin that has been a regional pro trials rider his whole life. Nothing makes my blood boil more than when he tells me he is "going to the races" when referring to a trials event.Grinning

The Econ models. I picked one up used, and it works great for my novice trials skills.

I was surprised how fun trials is. Very, very different from mx or off road.

Haha! I love this thread. I used to think trials riders were just guys afraid to twist the throttle...but now I can't tell you how many trials vids I e watched with my mouth hanging open in sheer amazement at how talented these guys are. Awesome stuff...even though they actually ride even slower than I do anymore. TongueWink
